Reacher star Alan Ritchson has confirmed what fans of the Lee Child novels have been buzzing about for weeks: Season 4 of Prime Video’s hit action series will adapt Gone Tomorrow, one of the author’s most nerve-wracking and conspiracy-laced thrillers. Ritchson himself revealed the news on Instagram following a tease from Child himself last night. The actor posted a selfie in which he was holding a copy of the novel in his comically giant hand, making it seem like a tiny book for The Borrowers. Ritchson‘s caption included this tease:
“The thing about subway cars is you step on one and you never know what’s going to happen.”
In Gone Tomorrow, Reacher’s instincts prove tragically correct when a woman he’s observing on the train suddenly dies in front of him, but something about the aftermath doesn’t add up. Driven by his gut and armed with a knack for sniffing out trouble — sounds unlike him to get involved in someone else’s business — Reacher plunges into a dangerous investigation that leads to the Pentagon, covert operations, and a chilling plot buried deep in America’s military machine.
Are the Reacher Books Being Adapted in Order?
Each Reacher season has hopped around the book chronology: Season 1 adapted the debut novel Killing Floor, while Seasons 2 and 3 jumped ahead to Bad Luck and Trouble and Persuader. With Gone Tomorrow now confirmed for Season 4, the series continues cherry-picking some of Child’s most cinematic and hard-hitting entries rather than strictly following the timeline.
This also marks the second consecutive season not to feature Neagley (Maria Sten) in a major role—though fans won’t have to wait long to see her again. Her Reacher spinoff series, which recently wrapped filming, is expected to premiere ahead of Season 4. Production had been paused while her show finished up, as both series share much of the same crew. Now that Neagley is in the can, the main Reacher series can move full steam ahead. Sten herself teased big things in a recent social media post:
“[T]hat’s a wrap on [Neagley] season 1! This story is so so special, folks. I cannot wait for you all to see what we’ve cooked up! I hope you’re ready cause it’s gonna be a wild one!”
Production on Reacher Season 4 is underway. The show streams on Prime Video.
