Four years after fans last saw Tom Holland’s Spider-Man try to save the day—again, things are looking promising for the next chapter in the franchise, which sadly isn’t arriving anytime soon. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth film in the reboot series, has been in development for years, with Holland revealing last year that production would begin in mid-2025. Well, that time is almost here, as The Herald has amazing news: filming is due to get underway this summer as pre-production is already in progress.
Earlier this year, Brand New Day got its official title along with a release date, and now, filming is scheduled to commence this August in Glasgow, Scotland. Meanwhile, the film is currently undergoing pre-production at the UK’s Pinewood Studios for Sony and Marvel. In the new Spider-Man film, Holland will, of course, reprise his role as the web-slinging superhero with Zendaya also expected to return as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson. A couple of new cast additions have also been made ahead of the film’s release, with the likes of Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink and The Bear’s Liza Colón-Zayas.
As the fourth installment in the MCU’s Spider-Man, Brand New Day is the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. The upcoming film has undergone some changes since it was announced. In February 2025, its release was pushed back a week later to July 31, 2026, and before then, there was a change in who would direct. Destin Daniel Cretton, who helmed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, has been tapped as director, replacing Jon Watts, who left as director of The Fantastic Four: First Steps in 2022 to take a break from blockbuster films.
Tom Holland’s Last ‘Spider-Man’ Movie Was a Massive Success
For those who are yet to see Peter Parker in action in Spider-Man: No Way Home, there’s still plenty of time to catch up. The sequel film hit the theaters on December 17, 2021, as part of Phase Four of the MCU and the 27th film in the universe. It was tremendously successful, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2021, the sixth-highest-grossing film at the time of its release, and the highest-grossing Spider-Man film. It also earned a fresh 93% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, with the audience giving it an even higher rating: 97%. Starring in the prequel to Brand New Day was an all-star cast ensemble alongside returning actors from The Spider-Verse, including Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. No Way Home was directed by Jon Watts and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
