One of the most popular characters of all time is getting a new story. Robin Hood has been a major draw, with multiple adaptations in television, film, and books.
A major BookTok sensation, which is a steamy suspenseful Robin Hood retelling, will be heading to the big screen. Per Deadline, Kate Stewart’s bestselling series Ravenwood is currently in the works and set to kick off a new franchise. Resident Evil production studio Constantin is working on the new franchise alongside After franchise producers Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay.
The Ravenwood book series is a contemporary retelling of the Robin Hood story. It follows a young woman, Cecelia Horner, who moves to a small town in North Carolina where she falls in with a mysterious clan known as the Ravenwood, who live by their own rules and brandish matching raven tattoos.
The dark romance retelling of Robin Hood consists of three books in the original The Ravenhood series, and received praise on GoodReads, where all three books have ratings above 4.0, and BookTok. After the end of the trilogy, The Ravenhood Legacy Series followed. The spinoff series currently consists of two novels, with a third one set for publication on Dec. 16, 2025.
The original series consists of Flock, released in 2020, its sequel Exodus, published the same year, and The Finish Line, which was published one year later in 2021. The spinoff series was published in 2023 with One Last Rainy Day: The Legacy of a Prince, a sequel in 2024, Severed Heart, and the upcoming Birds of a Feather, which will come out later this year
Constantin is currently in post-production with Colleen Hoover‘s Regretting You, distributed by Paramount. The indie studio acquired the rights to Stewart‘s dark contemporary-suspense franchise, and will have Robert Kulzer (Resident Evil) to produce with Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay (After franchise) of Offspring Entertainment, and Mario Celaya (After We Collided). The book series has sold more than three million copies since its release.
Author Kate Stewart will make her screenwriting debut and co-write with Celaya, and also serve as executive producer alongside Nadine Christine Hamdan and Oliver Berben.
The After Series Was Extremely Popular
The Anna Todd book series After was extremely popular. Initially inspired by music and One Direction‘s fandom, particularly singer and actor Harry Styles, the book series debuted on the storytelling platform Wattpad. It was later published and re-edited, and adapted into several films.
The film adaptations received mixed reviews from the critics, but it was a huge commercial success. The first installment, 2019’s After, grossed $57.9 million worldwide against a budget of $14 million (per The Numbers). Across five films between 2019 and 2023, the film series grossed $168.9 million. The adaptation starred Josephine Langford in the leading role as Tessa Young and Hero Fiennes Tiffin as Hardin Scott. Considering how popular the franchise was, having the After producers for the new Ravenwood adaptation could only mean good things.
There is another Robin Hood reimagining in the works: The Death of Robin Hood. The film comes from Pig filmmaker Michael Sarnoski, who will write and direct, starring Hugh Jackman in the titular role, as well as Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett, and Noah Jupe.
The Ravenwood franchise doesn’t have a cast or release date.
