Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson Reunion Series Halts Production as Showrunner Exists!!

Matthew McConaughey will always be known for his iconic roles in films like Interstellar, Dallas Buyers Club, and Magic Mike, but one of the upcoming projects from the Oscar-winning actor is now facing a major setback. McConaughey is attached to star in a currently untitled brothers series for Apple TV+ that’s been in production, which will even reunite him with his former True Detective co-star Woody Harrelson. However, Deadline reports that the show has paused production and showrunner David West Read has left the project after filming eight of 10 episodes. Lee Eisenberg is in talks to replace Read, but it’s unclear when filming will resume, and all stars have been sent home for the time being. Eisenberg recently worked with Apple TV+ on Lessons in Chemistry (Brie Larson).

Not that he ever really went anywhere, but McConaughey is ramping up for a bit of a comeback. His last leading feature role came in The Gentlemen (2019), the crime thriller from Guy Ritchie that’s since been spun-off into a Netflix series led by Theo James. In addition to starring across from Harrelson in the currently untitled show, McConaughey will also feature in The Rivals of Amziah King, a neo-Western with Kurt Russell. The film debuted earlier this year at SXSW and earned a strong 97% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but it’s still lacking distribution and unclear at this time when it’s going to be released. Apple TV+ also recently debuted the first trailer for The Lost Bus, an upcoming R-rated thriller in which McConaughey will star alongside America Ferrera. The film is lacking an official release date but is expected to premiere later this year.

What Did Matthew McConaughey Win an Oscar For?

Matthew McConaughey took home his first and only Academy Award in 2014 for Dallas Buyers Club, the drama starring Jared Leto, who also won for his performance. Dallas Buyers Club is not currently streaming anywhere and is only available to rent or purchase on Prime Video. McConaughey has not been nominated for any other Oscars in his career. He was also nominated for an Emmy for his work on the first season of True Detective, but he ultimately didn’t take home the award. The show also received a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series.

Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson’s Apple TV+ series has hit the pause button for now.
