Fans of the Harlequin books? Lucky for you, The CW is releasing six new original movies all inspired by some of their bestsellers! The new partnership kicks off with Montana Mavericks, starring Walker: Independence star Katerine McNamara and kicks off in August of this year! The six movies are being presented to audiences by CW Originals, Centinel Media and Bell Media and are, per the press release, “heartwarming romances feature fan-favorite stars from hit CW series including Gossip Girl, Walker: Independence, and The Flash.”
Montana Maverick is the start of the lineup and the six films are being released in a “cinematic style.” The film will be released in select theaters around country starting on August 26-27. Montana Mavericks will have McNamara starring as Heather, “a New York City girl and a best-selling author on a mission to conquer writer’s block and avoid paying back an advance on her next book. Her plans take a sudden swerve when she inherits a family ranch in Montana. With her two best friends, Heather heads out for a ‘Yellowstone’ adventure intent on a quick sale but is blindsided by both the ranch’s dilapidated condition and by Cliff (Dennis Andres), the charming cowboy veterinarian next door who challenges her big-city ideals. Heather and her friends find more than they bargained for in this big sky adventure.”
Heather Olander, the CW‘s Head of Scripted and Unscripted content, spoke about the films, saying “The CW has been building a passionate weekend audience of movie lovers, and this new slate of original films is for romance fans everywhere. These feel-good stories, inspired by hugely successful blockbuster Harlequin novels, are the perfect blend of nostalgia and escapism, and thanks to our exciting partnership with Fathom Entertainment, we’re thrilled to bring these films to the big screen first—giving fans the chance to laugh, swoon, and fall in love, together in theaters this summer,” she said.
Every New Film Is Something For the Harlequin Fans
Outside of Montana Mavericks, the six films from Harlequin Studios and Bell Media, bring in some of our favorite stars from the CW world. The following film is Ordinary Girl In a Tiara starring Katharine King So and Kathryn Gallagher. The film is about a “vintage fashion devotee named Caro (King So)” who agrees to “harbor her childhood nemesis turned couture heiress Philippa Levreaux (Gallagher)” and the two have a reunion for the ages. We then have Paws in the City, where “Issa (Emeraude Toubia) is a social media whiz on the rise. But when a mishap on her watch accidentally ruins a young starlet’s career, making Issa the most unemployable social media manager in Manhattan, she has no choice but to take the first job she can find—caring for Camila, a glossy-maned and capricious dachshund diva.”
The second half of original films kicks off with Recipe For Romance, starring True O’Brien as Sari in an enemies to lovers story, starring opposite Gabe (Alex Mallari Jr.). With pranks, bakeries, and more, the story feeds into the classic trope we know and love but with a sweet twist. Next up is Savvy Sheldon Feels Good As Hell with Glee alum Amber Riley starring as Savvy Sheldon. Savvy “is juggling a lot—a high-stress/low-thanks job, a situationship that has run its course, and the love-worn kitchen she inherited from her cherished grandma who left Savvy her love of cooking and a treasure trove of recipes. Supported by her ride or die mom and best friend, Savvy decides to take control of her destiny and sets out on some renovations, from her career to her kitchen. Isaiah (Dorian Grey), the dashing contractor, falls for more than Savvy’s delectable cuisine and may just be the secret ingredient to heating up Savvy’s love life, even as she finds her true calling.”
The last film on the CW‘s slate for their Harlequin collection is Second Guessing Fate. Bringing in The Flash star Danielle Panabaker as Gemma, the film takes us into the life of the “successful event planner with a full life.” Even though she gave up on dating, a fortune-teller gives her hope for her future love life.
You can see all of these stars in their upcoming films or see stars like Riley on older episodes of Glee.
