‘The Mummy’: Lee Cronin’s Blumhouse Remake Has Wrapped Filming!!

One of the most iconic movie monsters of all time is getting rebooted and the man behind the film just gave us a major update on its progress: Horror auteur Lee Cronin has announced that filming on his upcoming horror film The Mummy has wrapped. The New Line Cinema film is set to hit theaters in less than a year, so the fact that filming is complete is good news for fans of the classic monster.

Cronin announced the news on his Instagram page, sharing a photo of his director’s chair with a caption stating simply, “All wrapped up.” Details on the film are still slim, but we know that it is set to star Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, Verónica Falcón, and May Calamawy, with Reynor presumably playing the titular mummy (though this hasn’t been confirmed). But what is clear is that this film will pick up the legacy of the Mummy films before it, including the 1932 Universal classic, the Brendan Fraser-led 2000s trilogy, and the panned 2017 reboot.

So horror fans can likely expect that Cronin will put his own spin on the classic story of the mummy, Imhotep, and his efforts to resurrect his dead lover. Cronin will direct the film from a self-written script and is also producing for his Doppelgängers banner alongside Jason Blum for Blumhouse Productions, James Wan for Atomic Monster, and John Keville. As it is being distributed by New Line, it is notable as the first Mummy film not to come from Universal, the studio that created the character.

Cronin is a Horror Master

The Mummy will likely be in good hands with Cronin, who has proven himself in a few short years to be a master of the horror genre. His 2023 film Evil Dead Rise earned critical acclaim as the latest entry in the Evil Dead franchise and established Cronin as a legitimate horror director. It should come as no surprise, then, that Cronin is also collaborating on the next entry in that franchise, Evil Dead Burn. While Cronin won’t direct that project, he is still serving as an executive producer.

The Mummy is in theaters on April 17, 2026. Prior versions of the film are streaming now.
