Everyone stop what you’re doing. 20th Century has officially announced that The Devil Wears Prada 2 is officially in production. Not only that, but it’s officially confirmed the return of Anne Hathaway. Alongside the returning cast members of Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, and Hathaway, Deadline reports that Kenneth Branagh is joining the cast. Branagh will play the husband of Streep‘s Miranda Priestly. We already know that the film will feature Miranda as her career takes a downward turn in the modern-age of social media and fashion as it stands.
The film will release May 1, 2026, making for just 10 months of a turnaround for the sequel to the 2006 instant classic. The film’s original director, David Frankel, as well as the film’s original producer, Wendy Finerman, as well as writer Aline Brosh McKenna, are all returning to the sequel, which finds Blunt‘s Emily at the top of her marketing game, having sought greener pastures after the events of the first film. For the longest time, plans for the sequel were kept tightly under-wraps, with returning star Stanley Tucci even telling Collider‘s Steve Weintraub back in March when asked, “I cannot answer that question on the grounds that it will incriminate so many people.”
Miranda Priestly Is So Powerful, She Snagged a Date from The Avengers
If May 1, 2026 sounds like a familiar date, that’s because it was the release date for Avengers: Doomsday. Disney announced back in May that The Devil Wears Prada 2 would snag that spot from the upcoming Russo Brothers MCU film and Avengers: Doomsday (which has already begun filming as well) would move to December 18, 2026. The shift caused a cascade effect for the other upcoming Avengers film, Avengers: Secret Wars. That moved from May 7, 2027 to December 17, 2027.
Does this technically make Miranda Priestly more powerful than the Avengers? That’s up for fans to decide. Technically, according to insiders, the decision to bump Avengers from May to December came from the Russo Brothers needing “more time.” The film is the first Marvel movie they’ve directed since Avengers: Endgame and has a lofty cast including Robert Downey Jr. coming back to the MCU as Doctor Doom, which was announced at last year’s San Diego Comic Con.
