It’s been a few months since any news about MGM+’s version of the iconic Robin Hood tale made the rounds, but finally, that’s about to change. With production currently underway on the small-screen adaptation, seven new members have been added to its cast, joining Jack Patten and Lauren McQueen, who will headline the series as Rob and Marian. The Robin Hood series is expected to premiere sometime in December, but with a precise date to be announced in due time.
The latest cast members announced for the new Robin Hood show include Tom Mison, Graeme Thomas King, Anastasia Griffith, Matija Gredić, Mihailo Lazić, Boban Marjanović, and Jelena Gavrilović. Mison will star as Rob’s father, Hugh Locksley; King as the power-hungry Prince John; Griffith as Joan Locksley; Gredić as Drew Miller; Lazić as Henry; Marjanović as Drogo; and Gavrilović as Godda. Others previously tapped are Sean Bean as “the no-good, tax-loving Sheriff of Nottingham” and Connie Nielsen as Eleanor of Aquitaine.
In more casting news, this Robin Hood adaptation will also see Lydia Peckham appear as Priscilla of Nottingham, while Steven Waddington portrays the Earl of Huntingdon. Among Robin’s Merry Men, Marcus Fraser will play Little John, Angus Castle-Doughty stars as Friar Tuck, and Henry Rowley takes on the role of Will. Showrunner John Glenn will oversee the series while producer-director Jonathan English will direct. The duo also serve as writers and executive producers, alongside Todd Lieberman.
What’s More to Know About The New ‘Robin Hood’?
Centuries ago, the legendary heroic outlaw who stole from the rich to give to the poor first emerged in English folklore and has since inspired dozens of adaptations for both film and television, ranging from feature films starring Errol Flynn and Kevin Costner to an animated series with modern political themes. And now, we have the upcoming show that will tell the story of Robin from a new perspective.
Produced by Lionsgate Television for MGM+, Robin Hood will premiere six 45-minute episodes later this year with an alluring plot that promises to bring a “modern energy” to the epic saga of Robin Hood and his Merry Men. The series follows the eponymous character, who is also the son of a Saxon forester, as he falls in love with the daughter of a Norman lord. Together, they fight for justice and freedom during times of tyranny. Robin leads a band of outlaws while Marian uses her position in court to infiltrate the royal inner circles.
This promising love story has been described as a “sweeping, romantic adventure” that aims to blend historical authenticity with emotional complexity. Michael Wright, head of MGM+, also called the Robin Hood remake “a new imagining of the classic tale that brings a heightened focus on the relationship between Rob and Marian.”
Robin Hood arrives on MGM+ this December.
