The date is set for when the first issue of the Toledo Truth Teller will arrive. Peacock has officially announced that Greg Daniels and Michael Koman‘s long-awaited The Office spin-off, The Paper, will arrive on the platform on September 4 with a four-episode premiere to acclimate viewers to the frenzied new newsroom setting. New episodes will then follow every Thursday through September 25. Domhnall Gleeson is set to lead a new cast of white-collar workers — along with the returning Oscar Nuñez — who are all being documented by the same crew that last captured the daily happenings at Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch under Michael Scott (Steve Carell) 12 years ago.
Although The Paper will look to capture the same comedic vibes as its predecessor, it’s also meant to highlight new workplace challenges and characters within its setting. The series takes the documentary film crew to a once-legendary Midwestern newspaper that, according to the official poster, was once hailed as “The First Draft of History.” Now, however, the publication has fallen on hard times, but a publisher is determined to revive it to its former glory. Viewers will follow the team’s desperate attempts to keep the paper alive, all under the command of Gleeson‘s new boss, who promises to bring a new dynamic to the table compared to Carell and Ricky Gervais before him.
Gleeson enters the spin-off series fresh off starring in Guy Ritchie‘s latest action-adventure flick, Fountain of Youth, bringing a loaded resume that includes Alex Garland‘s Ex Machina, the Star Wars sequel trilogy, and the romantic comedy About Time with Rachel McAdams. He’s joined by a talented cat that prominently features The White Lotus‘s Sabrina Impacciatore alongside Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, Tim Key, and Nuñez. Additionally, a full slate of guest stars is already lined up, including Eric Rahill, Tracy Letts, Molly Ephraim, Mo Welch, Allan Havey, Duane Shepard Sr., Nate Jackson, and Nancy Lenehan.
