The sequel to Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman’s 26% Rotten Tomatoes fan favorite comedy just got some major reinforcements to its ensemble. Deadline reports that Lee Pace (Foundation), Xolo Maridueña (Blue Beetle), Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), and Solly McLeod (The Dead Don’t Hurt) have all joined the cast of Practical Magic 2, which is eyeing a September 18, 2026, release date. The report also dropped the bomb that Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing are also due to reprise their roles as Aunt Jet and Aunt Frances, respectively. It was reported earlier this year that Joey King (A Family Affair) had also joined the cast of Practical Magic 2. Production on the sequel has officially begun, which should give the crew plenty of time to ensure it hits its fall release date.
Although not particularly well-received by critics upon release — the 26% Rotten Tomatoes score is evidence of that — Practical Magic has become a cult classic over the years. The film also woefully underperformed at the box office, earning only $46 million against a $75 million budget, falling around $100 million short of its break-even point. However, as Practical Magic’s popularity has continued to rise over the years, a sequel has become a no-brainer. The film is not currently streaming anywhere, but it has had several runs of profound streaming success just in the last year on platforms such as Netflix and HBO Max. Practical Magic follows two witch sisters who were raised by their eccentric aunts — the returning Wiest and Channing. The two young witches face prejudice and a curse that prevents them from finding love.
What Have Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman Been in Lately?
Sandra Bullock has been absent from the big screen for several years since starring opposite Channing Tatum in The Lost City and also having a mostly off-screen role in Bullet Train, the 2022 action comedy starring Brad Pitt. She also set the world on fire with her performance in Bird Box, the 2018 Netflix horror film. The last few years have been anything but quiet for Nicole Kidman, who can recently be seen in Holland, Nine Perfect Strangers, Lioness, Spellbound, Babygirl, and A Family Affair, all released in the last year. Kidman even reprised her role as Atlanna in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in 2023.
Practical Magic 2 is now in production and will be released on September 18, 2026.
