‘Married… with Children’ Animated Series Featuring the Original Cast is No Longer in the Works!!

Two years ago, the animated revival of the beloved sitcom, Married… With Children, was said to be in development with the original cast attached to return, including Katey Sagal, Ed O’Neill, Christina Applegate, and David Faustino. Later in 2023, Applegate confirmed that the group remained attached to the project, but since then, nothing further has been shared until now. Unfortunately, it appears that the long-running comedy won’t be getting that animated reboot after all; nevertheless, fans can always hope for another one in the near future.

As reported by TVLine, the animated Married… With Children series is no longer in development, although the IP remains very important to Sony Pictures Television. In the meantime, fans can revisit the Bundys’ “bawdy antics” currently available on Hulu, Pluto TV, Roku, and COZI TV. The satirical show was created by Michael G. Moye and Ron Leavitt for FOX and aired from April 5, 1987, to June 9, 1997, consisting of eleven seasons and 259 episodes.

To date, Married… With Children is the longest-running live-action sitcom ever aired on FOX and was the first primetime series broadcast on the new FOX network. The series is set in Chicago and follows the lives of the Bundys, including Al Bundy (O’Neill), a former high school football player turned hard-luck women’s shoe salesman; his lazy wife Peggy (Sagal); and their kids, Kelly (Applegate) and Bud (Faustino). Also featured are their neighbors Steve and Marcy Rhoades, both of whom Al finds annoying, and who feel the same way about him.

What Happened to The ‘Married… With Children’ Animated Reboot?

In 2022, when the Married… With Children revival was first announced, fans also learned that Sony Pictures Television had been working on the animated series for over a year. The company apparently waited until they had closed deals with the cast before presenting it to networks and streamers. The reboot was written by Family Guy’s executive producer, Alex Carter, who serves as showrunner. A synopsis was also unveiled in May 2024, teasing the Bundys‘ relocation to Florida, following “a string of misfortunes.” The family now stays in the cheapest home in Dumpwater, basically a small house with a sinkhole front yard, according to the synopsis, adding:

As they get to know their Latin neighbors, war with HOA snobs, and yuck it up at their community pool, Al is desperate to be a big shot but continually gets fleeced in Florida – where the weather is sunny, but the people are shady.”

The highly anticipated Married… With Children animated sequel is no longer in the works.
