Leonardo DiCaprio has delivered some of the finest movie performances of all time, and to this day, it’s still almost unbelievable that he only has one Oscar to his name. DiCaprio has been nominated for his performance seven times in his career, including as recently as One Battle After Another, his latest action epic from director Paul Thomas Anderson. The film finished the ceremony with six Oscars, including one to his co-star Sean Penn for his performance as Colonel Lockjaw, but DiCaprio saw the award go to Michael B. Jordan for his performance in Sinners. Just a few years ago, many felt DiCaprio was snubbed of a deserving nomination for his work in Killers of the Flower Moon, the historical epic directed by Martin Scorsese and co-starring Robert De Niro.
DiCaprio has worked with Scorsese plenty of times over the years, enough that the pair can be considered one of the most famous actor/director duos of all time. They’re set to team up soon for a new movie, What Happens at Night, which co-stars Jennifer Lawrence, Mads Mikkelsen, Jared Harris, and Welker White. Apple TV shared the first-look image of DiCaprio and Lawrence from behind-the-scenes of What Happens at Night, confirming that the film is now in production. The feature film is based on the acclaimed novel of the same name by Peter Cameron, but it’s without an official release date yet. Sometime in 2027 is most likely, but this has yet to be confirmed. The first-look image does explain DiCaprio’s mystery mustache, which he was seen sporting at the Academy Awards a few nights ago, which sparked conversation throughout social channels.
Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio Have Another Big Project in the Works
Last year, it was reported that Leonardo DiCaprio would reunite with Martin Scorsese for a new Hawaii-set crime thriller, only this time, Dwayne Johnson is also joining the cast. Johnson is fresh off his first true attempt at an Oscar with his A24-backed MMA biopic, The Smashing Machine, which was met with a disappointing reception at the box office and only one Academy Award nomination. Johnson’s Smashing Machine co-star, Emily Blunt, will also have a role in the currently untitled crime thriller. It’s expected to be Scorsese and DiCaprio’s next movie after What Happens at Night.
