‘The Odyssey’: IMAX Tickets for Christopher Nolan’s Next Sold Out 1 Year Before Release!!

Christopher Nolan might be months away from finishing The Odyssey, but that hasn’t stopped moviegoers from declaring it an event for the ages — with IMAX 70mm premiere tickets selling out an entire year in advance. Yes, you read that right: The Odyssey, Nolan’s highly anticipated follow-up to Oppenheimer, won’t hit theaters until July 17, 2026, but fans have already cleared out its initial IMAX run across select venues. Theaters in cities like London, New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Melbourne, and Prague saw demand spike just hours after tickets quietly went on sale at midnight Thursday. And by afternoon, resale prices had soared past $500 online, which is just silly.

Remarkably, Nolan’s The Odyssey is still filming. But that hasn’t deterred fans from locking in seats to what’s already being called the next IMAX blockbuster. Some buyers on Reddit claimed they snagged tickets for $32 each — but resellers wasted no time, with listings already live for up to $399 per pair. This kind of demand is virtually unprecedented — not even Oppenheimer, which grossed nearly $1 billion globally, had IMAX tickets available this far ahead of release. That film raked in over $190 million from IMAX alone. With The Odyssey being shot entirely on IMAX cameras, some suggest it could outperform even Avengers: Doomsday at the box office.

This marks the first-ever commercial film shot entirely with the new generation of IMAX cameras, which are reportedly 30% quieter and significantly lighter, allowing for more dynamic scenes and easier review of footage on set. It’s a technical leap that suits Nolan’s ambitious reimagining of Homer’s epic Greek poem.

What Is ‘The Odyssey’ About?

The story centers on Odysseus (Matt Damon), a war-weary king trying to return to Ithaca after the Trojan War. The voyage is anything but straightforward, pitting him against sirens, monsters, gods, and his own demons. Tom Holland stars as Telemachus, his son. Charlize Theron will play the goddess Circe, while Zendaya’s role remains under wraps. Additional cast includes Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Mia Goth, Jon Bernthal, John Leguizamo, Benny Safdie, and Elliot Page — a dream team of Nolan regulars and fresh faces. And yes, it’s hilarious saying “additional cast includes” followed by a list of certified A-listers, such is the world of Nolan.

The Odyssey sails into theaters — and IMAX — on July 17, 2026. If you didn’t get your ticket already… good luck.
