Spider-Man fans hoping to see the conclusion to Miles Morales’ journey sooner rather than later are going to have to wait a little longer — again. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse has officially been pushed back from its planned release date of June 4, 2027, and will now hit theaters on June 25, 2027. While a three-week shift may not seem massive, it’s just the latest in a string of setbacks for the highly anticipated sequel, which was originally meant to arrive less than a year after 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
The new date was confirmed by Sony, even as production continues behind the scenes. Actors are actively recording their dialogue, but the animation pipeline for the ambitious multiversal trilogy-capper remains a complex beast — especially given the scope teased in the cliffhanger ending of Across the Spider-Verse. Directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson are returning for the finale, which is expected to wrap up the story threads set in motion back in 2018’s Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
What Is ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ About?
Picking up directly after the shocking final moments of Across the Spider-Verse, the upcoming film will follow Miles Morales as he tries to prevent his father’s death and escape an alternate universe where his variant has become the Prowler. It’s a high-stakes continuation with serious emotional weight — and multiversal chaos to match. Voice actor Shameik Moore, who plays Miles, recently teased that he might appear even more than fans expect:
“(I’m in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse) three times!” he said, hinting that multiple versions of Miles will continue to factor heavily into the story.
We already know Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will feature returning allies like Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) and Spider-Noir (Nicolas Cage), with the villainous Spot (Jason Schwartzman) looming large after his ominous evolution last film. With Aaron Davis (Mahershala Ali) unexpectedly back in the mix — at least in one universe — it’s clear nothing is off the table.
Originally planned as a two-part sequel (with Across and Beyond intended to release in quick succession), the production timeline simply proved too ambitious. Fans may recall that Across the Spider-Verse itself was delayed multiple times before finally releasing to critical acclaim and strong box office returns in 2023.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is now scheduled to premiere in theaters on June 25, 2027.
