The next adventure featuring David Corenswet as Superman is taking shape. During a recent interview, filmmaker and co-head of DC Studios, James Gunn, shared some details about what’s to come for the last son of Krypton. The character was recently introduced in the first theatrical installment of the DC Universe. Superman had a global debut of $220 million at the box office, turning it into a successful starting point for Warner Bros.’ new franchise.
During an interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the first detail that James Gunn revealed regarding the movie is the fact it won’t be a World’s Finest story featuring Batman, or a movie that pitches the two characters against each other, such as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. After Warner Bros. introduced Henry Cavill as Superman more than a decade ago, the studio presented Ben Affleck as Batman in the next installment of their story. That won’t be the case for the DC Universe Gunn is building alongside Peter Safran.
The Suicide Squad (2021) director was also willing to reveal that, while the movie will feature David Corenswet‘s version of Clark Kent, the story won’t be a direct sequel to Superman. This summer’s blockbuster established that metahumans have existed in the DCU for over three centuries. The possibilities for who will be leading the next movie alongside Superman are basically endless. Gunn also confirmed that this mysterious Superman follow-up will also be the next project he directs.

DC Studios is also reportedly fast-tracking a new Wonder Woman movie after Superman‘s impressive performance at the global box office. The hero will be portrayed by a different performer, after Gal Gadot brought the character to life in the DC Extended Universe. Warner Bros. hasn’t announced when their new Wonder Woman film will be released, but the studio is certainly populating the DCU with characters who could be able to co-lead a blockbuster with Superman.
A release date for the next movie featuring Superman hasn’t been announced by Warner Bros.
