Grab your wooden stakes and leather jackets because the Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot is one step closer to a reality. We just got our first look at the table read for the reboot series, announced late last year. Now more than seven months later, Buffy Summers herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar, posted to Instagram of her spot at the table read with the caption “Baby steps”.
We know that Skeleton Crew‘s Ryan Kiera Armstrong will be the Chosen One this time around. From the table read, we also know that not only is Gellar returning to the series behind the scenes but is also reprising her role as Buffy Summers. As for other development behind the scenes, fans have learned that Chloé Zhao is set to direct the reboot with Nora Zuckerman and Lilla Zuckerman serving as showrunners.
Sarah Michelle Gellar Reveals Bonkers Plans for the ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot’
In addition to introducing a new Slayer for a new generation, Gellar has some lofty plans for the reboot series. Recently, Gellar talked with Vanity Fair, and when asked about the reboot she said, “My dream is to bring back everyone who has died, but space will have to be made for new stories as well.” While a lot of fans’ first instincts may be Buffy’s mother Joy, who died in one of the saddest scenes in the entire series, others are looking to those that have died in the Buffyverse as a whole. One popular possible return fans are champing at the bit for would be Charisma Carpenter‘s Cordelia Chase.
Recently, Carpenter told IGN, “I am so excited for fans, and I know it will be fantastic because of who’s involved. To see this actually happen for the fans makes me thrilled. I am so hopeful to be included, for Cordelia to be a part of this new iteration.” Carpenter has previously stated her enthusiasm for possible returning to the franchise, telling fans at Indiana Comic Con earlier this year, “I hope — if I am involved — I hope so in some fashion it’s more in a substantive way. That would be my dream.” Cordelia’s fate came to an (unfair) end on the spin-off, Angel, led by David Boreanaz, so some sort of redux or deus ex machina would be greatly appreciated among fans.
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is now in pre-production. No release date has been made.
