‘Best Medicine’: Fox’s Upcoming Medical Comedy Adds Cree Cicchino!!

One of the most common tropes in modern television is that of the medical dramedy, and very few can match the success and impact of the USA Network‘s Scrubs. It is, however, expected that other shows could attempt to replace it in the subconscious of the audience and that is what Fox‘s upcoming medical comedy, Best Medicine, hopes to achieve. The upcoming show follows a doctor from Boston, who moves to a small practice in an east coast fishing village where he vacationed as a child. According to Variety, the series has added the exciting talent of Cree Chiccino, also known as Cree, to its cast. The Turtles All The Way Down star will play the role of Elaine Denham, a character described as “adorable, energetic, and ambitious, with enormous dreams,” who harbors ambitions of becoming a YouTube star.

The show is set to premiere during the 2025-26 broadcast season, and will rival the Scrubs and St. Denis Medical reboots that are currently in development. Fox’s upcoming medical comedy has already recruited a number of stellar names to its cast, with Grey’s Anatomy alum Abigail Spencer joining alongside Josh Charles, Josh Segarra, and Young Sheldon‘s very own, Annie Potts. Best Medicine serves as an American adaptation of the popular British series Doc Martin. The show’s official description states:

The series centers on Martin Best (Charles), a brilliant surgeon who abruptly leaves his illustrious career in Boston to become the general practitioner in a quaint East Coast fishing village where he spent summers as a child. Unfortunately, Martin’s blunt and borderline rude bedside manner rubs the quirky, needy locals the wrong way, especially local school teacher Louisa Glasson (Spencer), however tenacity is the creed of everyone in their small village, and the people who live there may be exactly what the doctor ordered.

‘Best Medicine’ Will Have To Contend With A ‘Scrubs’ Reboot

While some day in the future, Best Medicine might ultimately establish itself to rival legendary shows like Scrubs, for the time being, it’s not there yet. As far as medical comedies go, Fox‘s upcoming series is a good shout. However, lots of audience members will be looking out for the upcoming Scrubs reboot as well. The new medical comedy will bring back a trio of familiar faces in the process with Zach Braff‘s Dr. John “J.D.” Dorian, returning to his famed role. The new Scrubs will also feature the return of Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke as Dr. Christopher Turk and Dr. Elliot Reed, respectively. Original series creator Bill Lawrence is on board and that is a recipe for success with endless possibilities. The backbone of the original series was the bromance between JD and Turk, and Lawrence recently teased where the reboot meets them.

Best Medicine is executive produced by Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, Rodney Ferrell, Liz Tuccillo, Mark Crowdy and Philippa Braithwaite. The show is aiming for a premiere during the 2025-26 broadcast season but does not have a release date yet.
