The end of the road is finally in sight for what has perhaps been the most successful offshoot to come from the universe of The Walking Dead. Today, during their panel at SDCC, the stars of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon — Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride — took the stage in Hall H alongside creatives David Zabel, Scott M. Gimple, and Greg Nicotero. Together, the group broke the bittersweet news to the audience, revealing that while Season 4 is on the way, it will be the final chapter in what has been an exciting exploration into the lives of two of the franchise’s most beloved characters.
What we can expect from Season 4 is more action going down in Spain, with production in locations like Bilbao, Galicia, Andalucía, the Segovia region, Toledo, and Community of Madrid set to get underway later this month. Considering there’s just one week left in July, that means cameras are likely picking up at the top of next week. We also know that the final chapter will be eight episodes in length and, along with Reedus and McBride reprising their fan-favorite characters, will also include another sprawling supporting cast, just as it did during the first two seasons.
Given that both stars of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon have stood strongly in their roles for well over a decade, the news of the show’s final season is likely a bittersweet one. In a statement paired with the announcement, Reedus said,
“Daryl Dixon has been an incredible journey. I thank each and every fan who has joined us on this ride. It’s been a privilege to build this story for these characters, and we have so much gratitude for how it’s been embraced. Your love and support have made every moment worth it. This finale isn’t just an ending; it’s a celebration of what we’ve all shared together. Keep carrying that love forward — Daryl’s journey is far from over.”
Adding to her co-star’s sentiments, McBride said,
“It has been the thrill of a lifetime to shoot this part of Daryl and Carol’s adventure together in Europe and I keep coming back for more of these two characters. There is still so much story left to tell and so much for the fans to look forward to. I’m going to revel in the moments as they come and am excited for the fans to see what we have been working on in these incredible locations.”
Prepare for the penultimate chapter when The Walking Dead: Daryl and Carol returns for Season 3 on September 7.
