‘Deadpool 4’ Gets Disappointing Update!!

After the return of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in Deadpool & Wolverine earned an eye-popping box office haul of over $1.3 billion, complete with rave reviews, it was almost assured that the multiversal adventure was not the last of the dynamic duo. For all the jokes of Jackman playing Logan until he’s 90, though, another team-up might not be coming for a while. Variety shared a massive report on where things stand among Marvel brass that said there was “no urgency” for a Deadpool 4 right now. Sources within the company cited a pullback on superhero content throughout the industry, prompting a slowdown of plans for the Merc with a Mouth’s MCU future.

The news comes as a bit of a surprise considering the momentum going for Wade Wilson after his first film in six years. During a roundtable discussion with Kevin Feige attended by Collider‘s Steve Weintraub, the Marvel boss confirmed ongoing discussions with Reynolds and Jackman about what would come next for their characters after defeating Cassandra Nova. Neither had a chair revealed for the big Avengers: Doomsday team-up, but it seemed likely they’d be involved sooner rather than later in what the franchise has cooking. Reports also indicated that Reynolds was quietly toiling away on a script that would unite Deadpool and the X-Men at a time when the MCU is preparing to add the mutant team to their roster.

Granted, Deadpool and Wolverine aren’t the only heroes being thrown on the back burner right now. After years of development with Mahershala Ali taking on the role made famous by Wesley Snipes, Marvel’s Blade movie is in no hurry to get off the ground either. That’s not too surprising, considering the many delays and the careful planning as the team weighs multiple different versions of the script for the big screen. On the flip side, the same sources confirmed that there’s internal buzz about the ideas Ryan Coogler is considering for Black Panther 3, pointing towards a return to Wakanda in live-action sooner rather than later. In general, the company is appearing methodical with how it’s approaching its theatrical slate.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’s Impact Will Be Felt in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Even if another movie centered on Reynolds and Jackman isn’t coming anytime soon, their latest Maximum Effort with Shawn Levy has made an impact on the MCU’s immediate future. One person from Deadpool & Wolverine that was included in the initial Doomsday cast list was Channing Tatum, who is all but certain to be reprising his role as the fast-talking Cajun fan-favorite Gambit. In general, the film introduced concepts that are sure to come into play in the fight against Robert Downey Jr.‘s Doctor Doom, and, even though they haven’t been confirmed yet, there are still reports of Jackman returning. With his fellow former X-Men stars like Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming, and James Marsden all returning as well, it’s set to be a surprising and exciting reunion for the 20th Century Fox superhero universe next December.
