It might not be Christmastime yet, but fans are getting a brand-new take on the 2006 rom-com The Holiday. The film starred Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, Jack Black, and Kate Winslet. Now, Deadline reports that a limited series is in the works from Apple TV+ with a new cast and new characters. The premise will essentially be the same: an American woman and a British woman house swapping. Krissie Ducker (Sweetpea) is attached as a writer and producer for the new limited series. Rob Delaney (Catastrophe, Deadpool & Wolverine) will also write for it. Deadline reports that Nancy Meyers has no involvement in the project, and goes on to say that the search is currently underway for the leads, wanting well-known performers for the series. Deadline reports that once that is done, the series is expected to get a green light.

What Is ‘The Holiday’?
The 2006 romantic comedy The Holiday became somewhat of an instant cozy classic among fans of Nancy Meyers‘ work. Meyers is responsible for other films such as Something’s Gotta Give, The Parent Trap, Father of The Bride, The Intern, and more, all films that feature quiet intimate moments among the bigger, oftentimes swoon-worthy, feel-good plot. The Holiday made roughly $200 million at the global box office back in 2006. The film takes four people, Iris (Winslet), Amanda (Diaz), Graham (Law), and Miles (Black), all at various stages of a hot mess, express in their own lives as their lives intersect at Christmas. Iris and Amanda, both dealing with heartbreak in their own vastly different ways, swap houses in LA and Surrey, England, respectively, through Christmas. In England, Amanda meets Iris’ brother Graham and unexpectedly falls in love. Iris and Miles’ story is quieter, as Iris begins to realize what she wants for herself apart from a dependency on Jasper, a man she works with who becomes engaged to someone else.
Though the film is full of dual swoon-worthy romances, the growth both Amanda and Iris have as individuals is moving. Amanda learns to slow her life down, let in messy and complicated feelings, while Iris learns to grab life with both hands and stops letting life happen to her. While the film only sports a 51% Critic’s Score on Rotten Tomatoes, the 81% Audience Score shows that it remains a fan-favorite holiday after holiday.
No cast has been announced for The Holiday remake on Apple TV+. Krissie Ducker and Rob Delaney are serving as writers for the project.
