‘3 Body Problem’ Season 2 Adds Alfie Allen!!

Netflix‘s hit sci-fi drama 3 Body Problem was renewed for a second and third season in 2024, a little while after the first season premiered on the streamer. The summer has seen production plans ramp up significantly in recent weeks with new characters being cast and the potential of the story heading to a new location. Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss have, through their work on 3 Body Problem, established their genius, and now the pair are in for a reunion. Having worked together for several seasons on the critically acclaimed HBO fantasy series, Benioff and Weiss have been reunited with Alfie Allen for the second season of the sci-fi drama.

For those who follow the tales from Westeros, Allen played the role of Theon Greyjoy across all eight seasons of the series, which ran from 2011 to 2019. Netflix officially announced the arrival of Allen via their X handle, as the show welcomes yet another GOT alum to the series. Allen will be playing a recurring character in 3 Body Problem Season 2, allegedly named Fuzzy Brain, and his casting announcement came alongside news that both David Yip and Jordan Sunshine have both also joined the show’s sophomore outing. Allen is not the first on-screen actor from the acclaimed HBO series to swap the scheming of Westeros for the science of 3 Body Problem. Season 1 of the sci-fi drama saw Liam Cunningham, who played Davos Seaworth on Thrones, John Bradley, who played Samwell Tarly, and Jonathan Pryce, who played the High Sparrow, all feature. Conleth Hill even made a cameo appearance.

Created by co-creators Benioff and Weiss, alongside Alexander Woo, 3 Body Problem is an adaptation of author Cixin Liu’s trilogy that tells the story of an alien invasion set over a vast period of time. The first season debuted last year to critical acclaim and reigned atop Netflix’s TV chart for several weeks. Speaking last year, Weiss revealed plans to surpass their first outing with Season 2, saying, “This kind of eases you into the world of the story, but the story gets really wild in the best possible way.” The description for Season 2 of 3 Body Problem is brief and cryptic:

“As the alien invasion nears, humanity prepares — on Earth and elsewhere.”

Besides the aforementioned Pryce and Cunningham, the main cast members include Jovan Adepo, John Bradley, Rosalind Chao, Eiza González, Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, Alex Sharp, Sea Shimooka, Zine Tseng, Saamer Usmani, and Benedict Wong. New arrivals to Season 2 include Claudia Doumit as Captain Van Rijn and Ellie De Lange as Ayla.
