‘Public Domain’: ‘Supernatural’ Alum to Reunite for New Animated Series!!

There’s just something about iconic characters entering the public domain that has creatives going completely feral over the last few years. While productions like Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and Screamboat have taken the familiar faces of our childhoods and gone the horror route, a notable name from The CW’s beloved series, Supernatural, is setting out to do something completely different with an animated series titled Public Domain. Those in attendance at Creation Entertainment’s upcoming event, The Road So Far… The Road Ahead tour in Austin, Texas, will get a first-look at the project hailing from Matt Cohen, who played the Archangel Michael and a younger version of Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s John Winchester in the long-running drama.

Joined by a multitude of other members of the Supernatural family (more on that in a minute), Cohen’s Public Domain will center on a bar just outside of Hollywood where a former child star named Shep Salazar hires the unlucky characters whose fan-favorite works have stumbled into the public domain. Included on Shep’s schedule are the likes of The Wizard of Oz’s Dorothy, Peter Pan’s Wendy Darling, The Hunchback of Notre Dame’s Quasimodo, Frankenstein, and Cthulhu. On the other side of the bar, numerous other favorites, like Sherlock Holmes, King Arthur, John Carter, and even Santa, belly up for a beer and a shot to commiserate over their luck. But, the tides suddenly shift when a film producer named Sydney Salmon arrives and signs Hercules to a studio contract — a move that will change the lives of the patrons and staff at the titular bar forever.

Who Else Stars in ‘Public Domain’?

As mentioned, Cohen assembled a knock-out team of familiar Supernatural alum to lend their voices to his animated series. Audiences will remember Ruth Connell for her work as the witchy Rowena MacLeod, while Rob Benedict played God (literally), aka Chuck Shurley and Richard Speight Jr. who tricked the Winchester boys (Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki) as Loki every chance he got. Other performances come from Briana Buckmaster, who was known for her role as Donna Hanscum, Jake Abel, who played the Winchester’s half-brother, Adam, Chad Lindberg, who appeared as Ash, Adam Fergus, who portrayed Mick Davies, and everyone’s favorite father figure — Jim Beaver — who was always there to lend the boys a hand as Bobby Singer.

Supernatural is now streaming on Netflix.
