Zack Snyder has a very specific style and look to his work. The Rebel Moon director is so beloved by his fanbase that they got the Snyder cut of Justice League released as Zack Snyder’s Justice League that was over four hours long. Since, they’ve supported his projects, like the Rebel Moon franchise, and now Snyder is on to another project that means a lot to him: The Last Photograph. It was announced in an exclusive to Deadline that Snyder would reunite with Rebel Moon stars Stuart Moon and Fra Fee for his next film.
The Last Photograph follows an ex-DEA operative who returns to South America in search of his missing niece and nephew. After the death of their parents, he has to find them himself with the help of a “washed-up junkie war photographer” because he is the only one who has see the face of those who killed his family. As the two journey into the unknown, searching for answers and the children, the film reportedly twists to take us into a world that makes it hard to know what is real and what is not. Written by Kurt Johnstad, the film will have a story-by credit for Snyder and he is set to direct the film.
“The idea of taking camera in hand and simply making a movie in an intimate way is very appealing to me,” Snyder said. “The Last Photograph is a meditation of life and death, embodying some of the trials that I have experienced in my own life and the exploration of those ideas through image making.” Snyder has a history of creating thrilling adaptations of work like Watchmen and his superhero films as well as his original ideas, like Rebel Moon and Sucker Punch.
Zack Snyder Is Just Making His Passion Projects
Snyder‘s last big undertaking was creating his own sci-fi/fantasy story with the Rebel Moon franchise. Originally, the idea was pitched to Lucasfilm as a Star Wars movie but when the studio passed, Snyder created his own world and franchise from it. With two movies, a graphic novel, and novelizations all part of his grand plan, the project ended up being a huge undertaking for the Man of Steel director. But through Rebel Moon and now The Last Photograph, it is clear that Snyder‘s new move in his career is to make things he wants and that’s fun to see.
