‘The Jaws of Jakku’: ‘Star Wars’ to Get a New Rey-focused Audible Project!!

Although there have been no concrete updates on Daisy Ridley’s New Jedi Order project, Star Wars has decided to move forward with another Rey-focused project without her. A new Audible original titled The Jaws of Jakku, has been officially announced on the eve of the 10th anniversary of The Force Awakens. The book was written by New York Times bestselling author Cavan Scott, and performed by Helen Sadler. Jake Bartok did the cover art for the novel, which shows Rey braving the sands of Jakku with BB-8. The audiobook will be released on Thursday, October 9.

Star Wars: The Jaws of Jakku is set between the events of The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. It will follow Rey as she struggles under the training of her new Jedi Master, Leia Organa. Fans didn’t get to see much of Rey’s training from Leia, outside a few minutes at the beginning of The Rise of Skywalker, so this is welcome news for those looking for more content from the sequel trilogy. Finn will also have a role in The Jaws of Jakku, which will see Rey, Finn, and BB-8 return to the planet and meet a young girl whose family needs saving.

Despite the cover art being clearly based on Ridley’s portrayal of the character in the sequel trilogy, there’s no mention of her involvement as a voice actor or even a producer on the project. While details about her New Jedi Order project with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy continue to be ironed out, Ridley has been busy outside of Star Wars lately. She recently starred in the John Wick-esque action thriller Cleaner, which achieved solid success streaming on HBO Max following its theatrical release. She also recently teamed up with Brenton Thwaites for the horror thriller, We Bury the Dead.
