She’s done with Hollywood,” adding that efforts to contact her through calls, messages, and mutual friends have not changed her decision. Diaz retired from acting in 2018 and only recently made a limited return opposite Jamie Foxx in Back in Action.

Sony is developing the sequel My Best Friend’s Wedding 2. Collider reported that writer-director Celine Song, known for Past Lives and Materialists, will write the screenplay. News of the project gained traction when Dermot Mulroney revealed that “lawyers were talking” about a sequel during promotions for Netflix’s The Hunting Wives (via The New York Post).

The 1997 film starred Julia Roberts as a food critic trying to stop her best friend’s wedding, alongside Cameron Diaz, Rupert Everett, and Dermot Mulroney. It grossed nearly $300 million worldwide and remains a popular romantic comedy. Roberts has shown interest in returning. She recently appeared in Ticket to Paradise and will next star in Luca Guadagnino’s After the Hunt and the thriller Panic Carefully.

Celine Song, who earned an Academy Award nomination for Past Lives, will write the sequel’s script. She is also continuing other projects, including an HBO e-sports series.
