‘It Happened One Summer’: Nina Dobrev & Tyler Hoechlin to Lead New Rom-Com!!

Two stars from some of the 2010s’ biggest supernatural teen dramas, The Vampire Diaries and Teen Wolf, are teaming up for something new. Nina Dobrev and Tyler Hoechlin will lead It Happened One Summer alongside Virginia Gardner, a new report reveals. The film is in pre-production and is based on Tessa Bailey‘s hit novel of the same name. It Happened One Summer will be directed by Peter Hutchings (The Hating Game) from a screenplay by Christina Mengert and Joseph Muszynski. Bailey serves as a producer alongside Claude Dal Farra, Brian Keady, Lisa Berger, and Samantha Martin. The film’s official synopsis reads:

Piper Bellinger is a glamorous LA It Girl whose glittering world comes crashing down after a viral mishap gets her cancelled overnight. Cut off from her wealthy family’s safety net, she’s exiled to a rugged fishing town with one ultimatum: fix up her late father’s dive bar — or lose everything. There, she butts heads with Brendan, a gruff sea captain who has zero patience for influencers. He’s the last person she expected — and exactly what she needs.

Dobrev is best known for starring in the hit CW series The Vampire Diaries. She played various characters throughout the show’s eight-season run, but primarily as Elena. The actress has had roles in numerous movies and TV shows since the show ended, including a lead role on the short-lived CBS sitcom, Fam. She recently wrapped production on Bear Country alongside Russell Crowe. Hoechlin is best known for playing Derek Hale in the MTV series Teen Wolf. The actor also reprised the role for the 2023 movie. He went on to star as Superman in The CW series Superman & Lois, which concluded in 2024 after four seasons. Gardner is best known for playing Karolina Dean in Marvel‘s Runaways. She will be seen next in Like, F*ck Valentines Day, among others.
