A dead man’s legacy looms over his son in the first look at Lazarus, a new Prime Video thriller series from the mind of mystery maestro Harlan Coben. Sam Claflin and Bill Nighy star in the series, which is not based on one of Coben‘s novels, but comes from an original story idea by the author. All six episodes of Lazarus will premiere on Prime Video on October 22, 2025.
In the new series, Claflin (The Hunger Games) plays Joel Lazarus, who returns home following the suicide of his father, Dr. Jonathan Lazarus (Nighy, Living). Joel begins having disturbing, inexplicable experiences that hint at a supernatural element to the tale. He soon connects them to a series of cold-case murders that may be tangled up not only with his father’s suicide, but also the death of his sister, who was murdered twenty-five years ago. The new images feature Claflin and Nighy as Lazarus father and son, as well as what appears to be Dr. Lazarus’ funeral and Joel’s investigations. The series also stars Alexandra Roach (Utopia), David Fynn (Avenue 5), Karla Crome (Toxic Town), and Kate Ashfield (Shaun of the Dead).
Who Is Harlan Coben?
A prolific mystery and suspense writer from New Jersey, Coben published his first novel, Play Dead, in 1990. In recent years, his material has become the source of a wide variety of streaming hits. In 2018, he signed a five-year contract with Netflix to adapt 14 of his novels: 12 have been released so far, with many of them being localized into different countries, including Poland, Argentina, and France. Three have been released this year alone: Missing You, Just One Look, and Caught. Still to come are I Will Find You, starring Sam Worthington and Britt Lower, and Run Away, with James Nesbitt, Ruth Jones, and Minnie Driver. Outside Netflix, his novel Shelter was adapted into a series at Prime Video, starring Jaden Michael and Constance Zimmer; it was cancelled after a single season.
Lazarus is executive produced and written by Coben and Danny Brocklehurst (A Teacher); also executive producing are Nicola Shindler and Richard Fee for Quay Street Productions and Sam Claflin. Wayne Che Yip (The Rings of Power) will direct and executive produce. It is a production of Amazon MGM Studios and Quay Street Productions in association with Final Twist Productions.
Lazarus will be released on Prime Video on October 22, 2025.
