‘Toy Story 5’: New Images Introduces the New Characters!! Check It Out!!

As hard as it may be to believe, Toy Story 5 is just around the corner, set to reunite audiences with everyone’s favorite band of sentient toys just when it looked like we’d never see them again. Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen), and the rest of the Toy Story crew are set to return, but one of the secrets to this long-running franchise’s success has always been the brand-new characters that each new entry introduces. This time around, our heroes will run into a particularly brilliant toy named Smarty Pants, who will be voiced by none other than beloved comedian and late-night television legend, Conan O’Brien.

O’Brien has always been known for his tongue-in-cheek, self-deprecating brand of humor, and that already seems to be on display with his Toy Story 5 character. Being shaped like toilet paper, it appears that Smarty Pants is some sort of potty training toy for younger children. It’s not exactly the most hygienic task for a toy, but judging from Smarty Pants’ happy-go-lucky expression in the new image, he doesn’t seem to be bothered by his current circumstances.

Smarty Pants was unveiled at Disney‘s Destination D23 celebration, and he wasn’t the only new toy shown off for the upcoming film. Also revealed at the festivities was a new look at another character in the film, LilyPad, who appears to be a mix between an iPad and a LeapFrog educational toy. While the voice actor for LilyPad has yet to be announced, given that the story of Toy Story 5 revolves around the toys slowly being replaced by screens and technology, it seems reasonable to assume that Lily will be an antagonist in the story.

Following Woody’s decision to leave Bonnie (Madeleine McGraw) and his friends behind to go spend the rest of his days as a free toy with Bo Peep (Annie Potts) in Toy Story 4, the upcoming fifth installment will reunite the famous cowboy with his friends for a new adventure. The world has certainly changed since this story began 30 years ago, with many traditional toys, such as Woody and Buzz, being replaced by children in favor of screens and video games on phones and tablets. The screens might be the least of the gang’s problems, though, as they’ll also have to tangle with a meddlesome crew of evil Buzz Lightyear clones as well. In addition to Conan O’Brien as Smarty Pants, Toy Story 5 will also feature returning stars Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz, Joan Cusack as Jessie, Blake Clark as Slinky, and Tony Hale as Forky. Also in the mix is Ernie Hudson as Combat Carl — the franchise’s G.I. Joe parody, who the late Carl Weathers previously voiced in the animated short Toy Story of Terror.
