‘The Prestige’: Christopher Nolan’s Twisty 2006 Thriller Is Available To Stream for Free on Samsung TV Plus!!

As Christopher Nolan fans prepare — one year in advance — to watch the filmmaker’s new ambitious project, The Odyssey, it’s important to remember that a good number of his movies are worth revisiting. It’s been 19 years since The Prestige was first released, and it’s still a thrilling ride full of surprises that’s worth watching. If you own a Samsung device and somehow missed it, we have some great news: this month, the movie is available to stream for free on Samsung TV Plus.

The Prestige tells the story of two rival illusionists who want to pull the ultimate trick, but they don’t take their craft lightly, They are willing to do whatever it takes in order to be the best illusionist known. Alfred Borden (Christian Bale) calls himself “The Professor” and creates acts that not even other illusionists can figure out. At the same time, his arch rival, Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) uses the stage name “The Great Danton” and likes to wow audiences with his theatrics.

After sabotaging each other repeatedly, their feud reaches its climax when Borden performs a trick that baffles the entire illusionist community. To try to discover his secret, Angier throws himself into an investigation that takes him to the very limits of reality and science. Fans thoroughly enjoyed the experience, giving the 2006 movie a near-perfect 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics were a bit less enthusiastic, though, giving it a still-positive 77% score.

‘The Prestige’ Features a Star-Studded Cast

Aside from Bale and Jackman, the star-studded cast of The Prestige also features Scarlett Johansson (Jurassic World Rebirth), Rebecca Hall (Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire), Michael Caine (The Dark Knight), Piper Perabo (Yellowstone), Andy Serkis (Venom: The Last Dance), and none other than music superstar David Bowie, playing the real-life innovator Nikola Tesla. It wasn’t Bowie‘s first movie role — he is best known for the classics Labyrinth and The Man Who Fell to Earth.

The Prestige is mandatory viewing for Christopher Nolan fans. He co-wrote the script with his brother, Jonathan Nolan, who went on to create shows like Person of Interest and Westworld. The Nolan brothers adapted The Prestige from the 1995 novel by best-selling author Christopher Priest. The movie represented the rise of Nolan as a world-famous filmmaker and was the follow-up to the industry-changing superhero movie Batman Begins. After The Prestige, Nolan took on even more ambitious projects such as Inception, Interstellar, and Oppenheimer.
