‘Avengers: Doomsday’: First Look at Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom Revealed Disney 2026 Merchandise Expo China!! Check It Out!!

Avengers: Doomsday is still around 15 months away from hitting theaters around the globe, and in true Marvel fashion, the first look at a major character has leaked online. The first official look at Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom has been released, courtesy of newly surfaced promotional art at the Disney 2026 Merchandise Expo in China. Marvel fans have been mostly pleased with what appears to be the official costume for Downey’s Doom, which features a more comic-accurate look than what has been portrayed in previous adaptations, particularly the 2015 maligned Fantastic Four movie starring Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan.

One of the biggest questions surrounding Doctor Doom and Avengers: Doomsday is how much the Russo brothers are going to use Robert Downey Jr.’s face, and how much of it is going to be left behind his signature mask. Marvel is reportedly paying Downey upwards of $100 million for his performance as Doom in both Doomsday and Secret Wars — you don’t pay someone this kind of money unless you plan to use his face, too. Expect Doomsday to have some flashbacks with core members of the MCU’s Fantastic Four, like Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), to show Downey’s full face before his full descent into the iconic Marvel villain.

Plot details about Avengers: Doomsday are being kept under wraps, and this isn’t likely to change between now and its release. Marvel is notoriously secretive about keeping details and secrets hidden from the public, but it hasn’t been shy about sharing at least some of the cast members. Some big-time MCU stars are joining Downey in Doomsday, including Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Benedict Cumberbatch, Simu Liu, and many more.

Why Is Marvel Paying Robert Downey Jr. So Much?

Marvel is paying Robert Downey Jr. $100 million for Doomsday and Secret Wars because he’s guaranteed to sell tickets. He did just that for 10 years with his performance as Iron Man, and just the concept alone of him transitioning from Marvel’s poster hero into its signature villain is enough to pique the curiosity of even the most casual fans. Downey also recently won his first Oscar for his performance in Oppenheimer, which will certainly raise his rate for any movie going forward, even beyond the Marvel Universe.
