‘Big Little Lies’ Season 3: Francesca Sloane Set As Writer!!

It’s been quiet in Monterey for a while now, but it looks like the perfect storm is coming for our favorite group of wealthy women. Today, it was revealed that Season 3 of Big Little Lies took a giant leap forward as HBO hired a writer to pen the very first episode of the upcoming new batch. The award-winning series has been on hiatus ever since mid-2019. Details of the new season are kept under lock and key.

Francesca Sloane is the name selected to start bringing Big Little Lies‘ new season to life. Sloane created Mr. and Mrs. Smith for Prime Video and served as showrunner and executive producer for the action-comedy series. The writer reportedly signed a two-year overall deal with HBO, meaning that Sloane will develop and create content exclusively for the premium network until 2027. For Big Little Lies, Sloane will also serve as executive producer alongside Reese Witherspoon (The Morning Show), Nicole Kidman (Lioness), and series creator David E. Kelley.

Even if it takes a while for the whole season to be written, this is the first hefty bit of news that fans of the series get in a while. Season 3 has received vague news ever since Season 2 wrapped. Last year, however, conversations started to heat up, especially after Witherspoon and Kidman spoke about it and got their own former co-stars hyped up. At the time, Witherspoon revealed that the production was “moving fast and furious.”

Why Is ‘Big Little Lies’ Season 3 Taking So Long to Make?

There’s a reason why there’s been a big gap between Seasons 2 and 3 of Big Little Lies. According to HBO CEO Casey Bloys, the production team was waiting for Lianne Moriarty to finish writing a new book in the series — which will serve as inspiration for the new episodes. The fact that the production of the show is moving forward may indicate that the book is done, so fans of the novel have an additional reason to look forward to the next year.

One of the most difficult parts of the new season of Big Little Lies will probably be the same issue that the team had with Season 2. With such huge stars attached to it — the cast has featured A-listers like Meryl Streep (Only Murders in the Building), Laura Dern (Jay Kelly), Zoë Kravitz (The Batman), Shailene Woodley (Three Women), Adam Scott (Severance), and Alexander Skarsgård (Murderbot) — it’s difficult to synchronize everyone’s schedules so that they can all be on the set at the same time.

Season 3 of Big Little Lies is yet to get an official release window.
