Apple TV+ has finally decided the fate of its biggest sci-fi series on the eve of the Season 3 finale. The streamer has confirmed that Foundation has been renewed and will move forward with a fourth season. Production on Season 4 is scheduled to begin early next year, but it’s far too early to speculate about when the fourth season could be released. Starring Jared Harris and Lee Pace, Foundation is showrun by Ian Goldberg and David Kob, who also executive produce alongside Bill Bost, Michael Satrazemis, Robyn Asimov, and David S. Goyer.
Co-showrunners Goldberg and Kob broke their silence on the renewal, saying that “There is no series quite like Foundation, and we feel lucky and honored to be carrying the torch forward as co-showrunners into season four.” They continued, “We look forward to continuing the epic, emotional storytelling that defined the first three seasons of the show, and to be working alongside some of the most talented, passionate creative partners in the business.” Foundation Season 3 has been a juggernaut on Apple TV+ streaming charts since its premiere — it has yet to fall out of the top three, despite the arrival of other hit shows like Chief of War, Invasion, and Platonic.
Apple TV+ head of programming Matt Cherniss even spoke on the renewal, praising the show for becoming a “global phenomenon, with fans tuning in from every corner of the world.” He admits that Apple TV+ is “excited to keep exploring this universe together in season four,” and that “with each new season, the excitement around this trailblazing sci-fi epic just keeps building due to the bold storytelling and collective artists of this extraordinarily talented cast and creative team.”
What Happens in ‘Foundation’ Season 3?
In the third season of Apple TV+’s hit sci-fi series, The Foundation has established itself well beyond its humble beginnings, at the same time that the Cleonic Dynasty’s Empire has crumbled. As they form an uneasy alliance, The Mule (Pilou Asbæk) emerges and sets his sights on ruling the galaxy with military force and mind control. It’s left up to this deadly game of intergalactic chess to see who lives and who dies, and in tomorrow’s finale, expect to see Gaal and the Second Foundation take the fight to the Mule while the Emperor’s legacy takes a tragic hit.
