Fallout Season 2’s Justin Theroux just can’t escape Las Vegas. He’ll be joining Jude Law and Andrew Garfield in Wild Things, a new dramatic miniseries about the rise and fall of Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn, who mixed stage magic, exotic animals, and Las Vegas glitz for decades before their act came to a tragic end. According to reports, Theroux will star as Steve Wynn, the Las Vegas casino mogul who first hired Siegfried and Roy to perform at his newly opened Mirage casino in 1990.
Collider‘s Maggie Lovitt talked to Law and producer Ron Howard about the project last month while they were promoting their historical survival thriller, Eden. Law revealed that the project will be filming in November, and in preparation, he’s “taking German classes twice a week, and magic classes start next week.” Howard, who is producing the show with longtime Imagine Entertainment producing partner Brian Grazer, said, “It’s a real passion project for Brian. He’s been working on it for years. I’m so thrilled we’re doing it, but I’m not going to be in the trenches as I was with Eden. But we’re in great hands.” It’s the latest Apple project for Theroux, who also starred in and executive produced the streamer’s adaptation of The Mosquito Coast, which was written by his uncle, Paul Theroux.
What Is ‘Wild Things’ About?
Law will star as Siegfried Fischbacher, a stage magician who joined forces with animal trainer Roy Horn (Garfield) in their native Germany in the 1950s. They eventually became cruise ship entertainers and Las Vegas mainstays, helping to transform the Nevada desert oasis from a smoky den of iniquity into the family-friendly tourist destination it eventually became. The two became a pop culture mainstay, even inspiring a short-lived animated series, Father of the Pride, about their stable of white lions. However, the truth about the relationship between the two men was as elusive as the reality behind their magic tricks; that mystery only deepened when Horn was grievously mauled by one of their tigers on-stage in 2003, prompting them both to retire; Horn died of COVID-19 in 2020, while Fischbacher died of pancreatic cancer a year later. The series will also feature Darius Fraser (Plainclothes) as dancer Toney Mitchell, a man who had a complicated relationship with both Siegfried and Roy; his role will be recurring.
The series is adapted from the Apple Original podcast Wild Things: Siegfried & Roy. The show’s pilot will be directed by Matt Shakman (Fantastic Four: First Steps); Shakman will also produce with Howard, Grazer, Law, Garfield, Tony Leondis, and Kathy Ciric. It will be showrun and executive produced by John Hoffman (Only Murders in the Building); Will Malnati and Steven Leckart, who created the podcast, will also executive produce.
Wild Things is slated to begin production in November.
