‘The Expanse’: Prime Video’s Sci-Fi Masterpiece to Continue in New Comic from BOOM! Studios!!

The entertainment industry is well-versed in written works that have been turned into live-action adaptations. From anime, romance, horror, and sci-fi, among other genres. Based on the novels by James S.A. Corey — the pen names of Daniel Abraham and Ty FranckThe Expanse is set in the distant future where humanity has spread out across the solar system. The series was a masterpiece of a sci-fi show that found its niche and established itself at a rapid pace. The series had quite a lot in common with Game of Thrones compared to its fellow sci-fi peers.

The Expanse originally ran for three seasons on the Syfy channel before being picked up for a further three by Amazon. Unfortunately, the sci-fi series didn’t return for a seventh season, leaving the story unfinished. The decision to end the show was not one that fans appreciated, as the series had not yet adapted the remaining three books in the novel series. With a 95% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, it is clear that The Expanse is still held in high regard. Now, it seems hope has arisen for a seventh season as BOOM! Studios will be ushering in a new chapter in the world of The Expanse thanks to a brand-new sequel comic. Titled The Expanse: A Little Death, the graphic novel will continue where the show’s main story left off, with Amos Burton (Wes Catham) at the center.

What Is ‘The Expanse’ About?

The upcoming graphic novel is set to kick things off two years after the final episode of Season 6. The year is roughly 2358, and features a brand-new world called Auberon—a new, thriving colony of the Ring Network. Original series star Wes Chatham and comic book author Andy Diggle will team up to write the comic, providing insight into the upcoming story. They describe A Little Death as a tale of violent revenge, with Amos Burton still at the focal point. The story will begin characteristically enough with Burton finding all manner of trouble to get into, but he’ll eventually reunite with some familiar faces back in Baltimore.

The Expanse is set in a futuristic, dystopian universe where Earth’s resources have been depleted, and humanity has expanded to other planets in the solar system. We are soon tossed into Cold War-like tensions between the people of the Earth, Mars, and the (Asteroid) Belt, which will quickly escalate into an all-out war. Like George R.R. Martin‘s Game of Thrones, the beginning of The Expanse explores seemingly separate storylines, delving into the lives of different characters until they all intertwine in various, usually cataclysmic ways.

The Expanse is available to stream on Prime Video.
