It’s been a minute since PlayStation has given an update on Marvel’s Wolverine, but four years after the initial announcement, today’s State of Play showcase didn’t disappoint. The company shared a new gameplay trailer for Insomniac Games‘ latest superhero title, showing the grizzled mutant in bloody and brutal action. Compared to their Spider-Man games, this standalone title is an M-rated action-adventure packed with gore more befitting the gritty nature of Logan. On top of the new footage came an official release window of Fall 2026, leaving only one year left to wait before the X-Men icon comes home.
The footage wastes no time setting the tone for just how vicious players will get to be, as Logan Howlett quite literally tears soldiers apart with his claws. No matter where Wolverine runs, from local bars to city streets, markets, or flaming wastes, trouble always seems to find him, and he always seems to get out of it in the most ruthless ways possible. It’s not all blood-soaked brawls, though, with the anti-hero taking part in epic action setpieces on the back of a motorcycle and desperately hanging onto a cliff with his claws. Throughout his journey, he’ll run into some familiar Marvel faces, like Omega Red, who tries to choke him out, and Mystique, along with a brief appearance by a Sentinel. All of the action takes place across some stunning locales, from the island nation of Madripoor to the wilderness of Canada, and the bustling streets of Tokyo.
Bringing Logan to life for Marvel’s Wolverine is Liam McIntyre, best known for taking on the lead role of Spartacus in the STARZ historical drama series. He voices a rage and pain-filled Logan on a journey to discover the truth of his dark past that involves cutting down any foes in his path as he seeks any shreds of information that can help him. Insomniac’s game will hit on the more “nuanced” nature of the character, who grapples with the violence he inflicts and the punishment he endures with his healing factor. “Become a living weapon” is how the official blurb starts, teasing the fight for revelation and identity ahead of the iconic mutant, whether he’s wearing a cowboy hat or his iconic yellow suit.
‘Marvel’s Wolverine’ Experienced Some Bumps in the Road to Release
Not unlike Wolverine himself, the game took a few hits during production. Back in 2023, Insomniac was targeted by ransomware hackers, which resulted in an early development build of Marvel’s Wolverine landing online. Footage of the unfinished game was then uploaded as people played through what was available in the stolen files. The developer has since polished things up considerably, positioning the bloody action title as one of the most anticipated games of 2026, coming off the Game of the Year-nominated Spider-Man 2. Before then, Logan won’t be the only half of Deadpool & Wolverine getting a new game, with Deadpool VR releasing on Meta Quest 3/3S on November 18.
Marvel’s Wolverine releases in Fall 2026 exclusively on PlayStation 5. Before then, Insomniac promised more information on the game sometime next spring. Check out the official trailer in the player above.
