‘Predator: Badlands’ Director Teases Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Potential Return to the Franchise!!

Arnold Schwarzenegger may not be done playing Dutch in the Predator franchise yet, especially considering the character’s unexpected cameo in the extended ending of Predator: Killer of Killers. The action star first played the character Dutch in the 1987 monster movie, and fans were delighted to see him back in 2020’s Predator: Hunting Grounds, even if it was in a video game. Many assumed that Schwarzenegger was finished with the Predator franchise, considering he’s nearly 80 years old, but that may not necessarily be true.

Predator: Badlands and Prey director Dan Trachtenberg recently sat down for an interview to talk about the future of the Predator franchise, and he was asked if he could see Arnold ever coming back. “I met Arnold,” he said, “you’d think I’d get ‘I’ll be back!’ Yelled at me more, but it’s actually ‘Get to the Chopper!’ So he’s well aware of the franchise’s staying power.” He continued, confirming that Schwarzenegger is eager to jump back into Dutch’s boots: “he was excited to talk about what else we could do. Because there’s so much more story to tell now — you could tell how [Dutch and Naru] were captured, or what happens when they de-ice. Many possibilities.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 1987 Predator movie is well regarded as one of the best action movies of the 1980s. The film sits comfortably at a Certified Fresh 80% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and even an 87% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter. For a movie that was released nearly 40 years ago, it also found exceptional success at the box office. With a budget of $15 million, Predator grossed $98 million at the global box office. Arnold Schwarzenegger did not return for the 1990 sequel, Predator 2, which stars Danny Glover, who also had a possible return teased in Killer of Killers‘ extended ending.

Is the 1987 Predator Movie Streaming Anywhere?

Predator (1987) is currently streaming on Hulu, and the film is available to rent or purchase on VOD platforms like Prime Video and Fandango at Home. Carl Weathers and Shane Black also star alongside Schwarzenegger in the original Predator, and Black went on to direct the 2018 franchise installment before passing control to Dan Trachtenberg. Jim and John Thomas wrote the script for Predator (1987), and John McTiernan directed the film. McTiernan is also known for his work directing the original Die Hard movie, and he infamously remade the James Caan film Rollerball in 2002. His last directorial effort came more than 20 years ago on Basic.
