Since the premiere of The Bad Guys in 2022, viewers have followed the crew of Mr. Wolf, Mr. Shark, Ms. Tarantula, Mr. Piranha, and Mr. Snake on the path to redemption after a lifetime of crime. However, Netflix is now getting ready to explore how the titular gang racked up such a legendary rap sheet. Collider can exclusively reveal the official trailer for DreamWorks’ new series The Bad Guys: Breaking In, which takes place back when the felons were just run-of-the-mill bad guys who weren’t all that good at being bad in the first place. In their quest to become the greatest criminals ever to live, Wolf has a simple goal to start — land on 6 News Nightly’s Worst of the Worst with their biggest and boldest heists yet.
The opening moments serve as a reintroduction to The Bad Guys in their younger years, when they’re trying to prove themselves as a “daring new team of super criminals.” Yet, even when they rob a museum of historical artifacts and make a daring getaway, the police can’t be bothered to waste their time on such low-level thieves. Wolf knows they have to start thinking “bigger, bolder, badder” with their crimes if they want the infamy that comes with being one of the elite gangs at large. That doesn’t mean blowing up the moon like Tarantula wants, but instead a heist-a-thon, where they pilfer one extravagant location after another and bring mayhem to each of them. From leaping through flaming hoops to dodging giant falling hot dogs, they’re bound to become the greatest crooks in heist-ory.
Although the Bad Guys’ big screen adventures featured stars Sam Rockwell, Craig Robinson, Awkwafina, Anthony Ramos, and Mark Maron as the five members of the titular gang, Breaking In still features loads of talent in the cast. Voicing Wolf on the small screen will be Michael Godere, who has previously appeared in Mayor of Kingstown and the Showtime drama The Affair. He and most of the rest of the cast are also reprising their roles from the prior Bad Guys Netflix specials, including Haunted Heist and A Very Bad Holiday. Joining Godere are Ezekiel Ajeigbe as Shark, Raul Ceballos as Piranha, Chris Diamantopoulos as Snake, Mallory Low as Tarantula, Zehra Fazal as Tiffany Fluffit, Patton Oswalt as Mr. Wigglesworth, and Kate Mulgrew as Serpentina. Bret Haaland and Katherine Nolfi are attached as executive producers.
‘The Bad Guys’ Are Riding High After Their Latest Big-Screen Caper
2025 has been a good year for Mr. Wolf and his crew following their return to theaters in The Bad Guys 2. After finding redemption and stopping the villainous Professor Marmalade (Richard Ayoade) in the first film, the Bad Guys landed back on the street quickly thanks to good behavior. Pierre Perifel‘s sequel sees them trying their best to be good and fit into a society that still doesn’t quite trust them. Complicating matters, however, is the arrival of a hot new criminal group known as The Bad Girls, inspired by their work. The reformed thieves are soon roped back into one final high-stakes globe-trotting heist masterminded by Kitty Kat (Danielle Brooks), Pigtail Petrova (Maria Bakalova), and Doom (Natasha Lyonne). Thanks to a reinforced cast and higher stakes, the film was once again hailed by critics and audiences, with a Certified Fresh 88% Rotten Tomatoes score.
Haaland has confidence that Breaking In can be another worthwhile addition to the animated action comedy franchise, thanks in part to the availability and collaboration of the films’ creative team. They proved especially helpful when it came to fleshing out the Bad Guys’ personalities before they ever thought about reforming. “It’s been such a pleasure making this show, especially with having the film team (director Pierre Perifel, co-director JP Sans, and producer Damon Ross) nearby to give us their guidance,” he said. “It’s been so fun exploring how The Bad Guys relate to each other as they’re making a name for themselves, whether it’s working on a job or just day to day. Each member of the team has such a strong personality, I’m grateful to have the opportunity to work with such a strong cast of characters!”
His fellow EP Nolfi also shared a statement giving thanks to everyone who helped make the prequel a reality and expressing her love for the entire Bad Guys expanded universe, from the movies and specials to the original graphic novels by Aaron Blabey.
“As a fan of the books and movies, it’s been a joy to work with such an incredible team on the series. Exploring the early days of The Bad Guys and how they learn, or at least try to learn, to be the super cool crew we know from the movies has been a blast. I can’t imagine a badder crew of actors, writers, directors, artists, and all-around production to pull off this heist with.”
