For 17 weeks, KPop Demon Hunters has dominated the world. Not only was it one of the top films on Netflix‘s movie charts, but its soundtrack also pulled huge streaming numbers, leading the voice actors to perform the song live on Jimmy Fallon. Now, due to popular demand, Netflix has announced that the Sony animated feature will be returning to theaters for a limited time. So, if you want to sing your heart out to like-minded people, now is the time to do so.
The KPop Demon Hunters Sing-Along Event is returning to theaters this Halloween for a limited time. It will be screening in major theater chains across the U.S. and Canada, as well as in international regions, including the UK, Ireland, Korea, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Australia, and New Zealand. This will be the second time this feature has received a limited theatrical run. It previously entered cinemas in August and generated $18 million worldwide.
Kpop Demon Hunters is an animated fantasy feature where a KPop group called Huntr/x are also demon hunters, using their voice to create a magical barrier called the Honmoon. Tired of seeing the demons constantly failing, the Demon King, Gwi-Ma (Lee Byung-hun), agrees to a new plan by Jinu (Ahn Hyo-seop) to form a demon boy band called the Saja Boys and use the fans to weaken the Honmoon’s power. Meanwhile, the leader of Huntr/x, Rumi (Arden Cho), is secretly a half-demon, and it’s this secret that Jinu tries to exploit, only to form a budding romance.
What’s Next for ‘Kpop Demon Hunters’?
Ever since KPop Demon Hunters was released back in June, the feature has found massive success. It was highly praised by fans and critics alike, generating a Certified Fresh critics score of 95% and a Verified Hot audience score of 99%. Additionally, the soundtrack has generated millions of streams, with “Golden” being the most-streamed song.
The creators of KPop Demon Hunters, Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, are aware of the unanswered questions the film has left and stated that if a follow-up were to be greenlit, it would allow them to tell those missing stories. Fortunately, KPop Demon Hunters has received the encore performance it deserves, as it was reported that Netflix and Sony have plans to release a sequel. It has yet to be revealed when production will begin and when the product will be released. However, the creators have confirmed that a live-action adaptation of Netflix‘s most-streamed film is off the table, stating that there are stories, like KPop Demon Hunters, that are much more suited for animation.
KPop Demon Hunters will return to theaters from October 31 to November 2. In the meantime, you can stream the film and its sing-along version on Netflix.
