‘Prison Break’ Reboot Ordered to Series at Hulu!!

Hulu is breaking into the business of reboots, as a new report reveals that the streamer has officially picked up the long-gestating Prison Break reboot. With a brand-new storyline busting out of its cell, don’t expect to see Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell reprise their roles as the dutiful brothers at the center of the reboot. Instead, a new lineup of faces including Lukas Gage (Smile 2), Drake Rodger (The Winchesters), Emily Browning (Ghost Ship), Clayton Cardenas (Mayans M.C.), JR Bourne (Teen Wolf), Myles Bullock (Runaways) and Georgie Flores (Dumplin’) will pick up the torch and take viewers on a fresh adventure.

Set in the same universe as the original series, the greenlit series will follow Browning’s character, Cassidy, who, in a previously reported logline, is described as “an ex-soldier turned corrections officer.” From the sounds of it, her main reason behind the career shift is to help someone on the inside of one of the country’s deadliest prisons bust out. Beyond that, all bets are off as to how the drama will unfold. Having previously served as the co-creator behind Mayans M.C., Elgin James is on-board to pen, executive produce, and serve as showrunner on the new series, while also helming the pilot. Additionally, the flagship show’s creator, Paul Scheuring, will join as an executive producer alongside Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein and Neal Moritz, who were each EPs on the original.

‘Prison Break’s Long Trek Towards a Reboot

News about the then hopeful Prison Break reboot first reached the surface nearly two full years ago in November 2023. The original series landed on Fox a full two decades ago, making its return a longtime coming and one that many may not have considered a possibility. On the flip side, considering the five-season-running production was an incredibly successful one for its home network and reboots continue to be a profitable bet (for the most part), it seems like another dip into the Prison Break universe was only a matter of time. Still, fans of the original shouldn’t get their hopes up about any returning characters or performances, as co-leading man, Purcell, sank any lingering dreams over the summer when he confirmed he would not be involved in the revamp.

As we await more news about the impending Prison Break reboot, Hulu is the home for the hit series, with the entire collection of episodes now streaming.
