Despite recent rumors, Warner Bros. Discovery is indeed up for sale. A new press release from the company released just this morning confirmed that there is interest from multiple parties, and that it’s listening to offers. There have been rumors circulating in the last few weeks of Paramount Global’s interest in the media conglomerate, and while this report doesn’t mention it by name, its existence seemingly confirms that Paramount is indeed one of the bidders. The WB Board of Directors says that it has “initiated a review of strategic alternatives to maximize shareholder value,” which is an inside baseball way of saying it’s up for sale.
Warner Bros. CEO and President David Zaslav also released a statement in this morning’s press release: “We continue to make important strides to position our business to succeed in today’s evolving media landscape by advancing our strategic initiatives, returning our studios to industry leadership, and scaling HBO Max globally. We took the bold step of preparing to separate the Company into two distinct, leading media companies, Warner Bros. and Discovery Global, because we strongly believed this was the best path forward.”
Zaslav continued, “It’s no surprise that the significant value of our portfolios is receiving increased recognition by others in the market. After receiving interest from multiple parties, we have initiated a comprehensive review of strategic alternatives to identify the best path forward to unlock the full value of our assets.” Paramount’s first offer of $20-per-share for Warner Bros. Discovery was passed on earlier this month, but it’s not yet been made available who the other bidders are and what they’re offering. More information will certainly be available in the coming days.
Warner Bros. Has Had a Big Year in 2025
Warner Bros. has had one of its most profitable years ever at the movies. Its highest-grossing outing this year is A Minecraft Movie, which bowed out of theaters after grossing over $950 million globally. A sequel is already confirmed for 2027. Superman also falls under the Warner Bros. umbrella, and the film grossed over $600 million at the global box office and has also been a smash hit on streaming. Some other Warner Bros. success stories this year have been Sinners and Weapons, two of the greatest horror movies of the decade that also found success at the box office.
