‘Avengers: Doomsday’: Jeremy Renner Teases Hawkeye’s Retirement Days Are Over!!

Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) is one character who kept the Avengers together during the Infinity Saga. Renner is among the actors who have appeared in most MCU phases, with the Disney+ Hawkeye series marking his most recent appearance. Naturally, fans are expecting him to return for the next superhero mash-up, Avengers: Doomsday, which also stars his peers Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and more.

While there was some contention around his return to the MCU after Renner’s snowplow accident, those concerns were put to rest with the actor confirming he’s up for Hawkeye Season 2. Nonetheless, Renner recently gave an even bigger update on his Doomsday return. When asked about whether Hawkeye, aka Clint Barton, is still retired in light of the upcoming movie, he told ComicBook:

“I think he started retired… but he’s always pulled out of retirement, you know. I think he’s a family man; you always know where his allegiance lies, and he’s always come out of retirement, man. Until he’s killed, he’s always gonna be working.”

Renner is pointing out the plot point that made Clint a mainstay in the MCU; the archer previously came out of retirement during Captain America: Civil War to help Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) and Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). He then took on a new persona during Infinity War and returned after Natasha gave him hope. At the end of Hawkeye Season 1, he’s seen going back to his family. So when Doctor Doom threatens Earth, there is a chance that the new Captain America, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), can bring him out of retirement once again when he’s assembling his team of Earth’s mightiest heroes next.
