Vin Diesel may be famous for his role as Dom Toretto in the Fast & Furious movies, but soon he’s going to star in a dark fantasy sequel that just got an exciting update. Last month, it was reported that Lionsgate was finally moving forward on a sequel to Diesel’s 2015 fantasy film, The Last Witch Hunter. Details about the sequel were few and far between at the time, but Diesel took to his personal Instagram over the weekend to share the first images from the film, which can be found below. He even shared what appears to be the official title, The Lion’s Oath, and confirmed that it will be released in 2026.
This is a significant development for several reasons. Diesel has not been shy about sharing updates on the 11th and final Fast & Furious movie, which has been tentatively titled Fast X: Part 2. He even confirmed last week that production had begun, and that the rumors that Universal had plans to cancel the film were nonsense. However, if The Last Witch Hunter 2: The Lion’s Oath is going to be released in 2026, this will certainly be before Fast X: Part 2. This is yet another hurdle for Fast 11 to overcome.
What makes the greenlighting of a sequel even more surprising is that The Last Witch Hunter was poorly received by critics and audiences. It also didn’t perform well at the box office by any means. The film sits at scores of 17% from critics and 44% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it also grossed only $146 million against a $90 million budget. Lionsgate certainly hopes to exceed all of these metrics with the sequel when it hits screens next year.
Vin Diesel Is Bringing Michael Caine out of Retirement
Michael Caine had announced his retirement from acting, which wasn’t a surprise considering the actor is 92 years old. However, during the initial report detailing the greenlighting of The Last Witch Hunter 2, it was revealed that Caine plans to reprise his role as Dolan in the film. He has yet to publicly confirm or deny this. It’s also unclear at this time who is writing or directing The Last Witch Hunter 2. Breck Eisner directed the first Witch Hunter with a script from Cory Goodman, Matt Sazama, and Burk Sharpless.
