Buckle up — Sam, Dean and the Impala are on their way back. Just in time for the spookiest season of all, the story of Supernatural will continue thanks to the debut of Dynamite Entertainment’s previously announced comic book series, with the first issue dropping today, October 29. That’s right, there are plenty of more stories to come from the Eric Kripke-created universe that ran on the small-screen for a whopping 15 seasons before bowing out in 2020. While Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles might not be gracing your TV as Sam and Dean Winchester, respectively, anytime soon (we’re keeping our fingers crossed, though!) the comics will give fans a chance to carry on with the brothers’ adventures.
We know what you’re thinking — the series finale essentially put the kibosh on any future travels, right? After all, we saw Sam mourn the death of his brother before continuing to live out his life as he transitioned into old age and crossed into the afterlife, didn’t we? Instead of picking up where the series left off, the comics will snuggle into the timeline of the original series between the first and second seasons — back in the good old days. While on the hunt to uncover the truth about the demon that killed their mother, the pair of hunters stumble upon another case connected to a sinister entity responsible for a string of fires that are quickly turning a rust belt town to ash.
Penned by Greg Pak and featuring artwork from Eder Messias as well as cover art by Clayton Crain and David Cuosens, every issue of the new Supernatural comic series will also feature a photo of the famous faces who made the series so beloved in the first place. In a statement paired with the project’s announcement earlier this year, Pak said, “Fans of Supernatural know the show is a blast, and it’s an enormous pleasure and privilege to be able to dig into this wild world, especially with Eder Messias. We’re going for fun and grounded, and then we’re going to absolutely cut loose when the time comes.”
Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles Will Reunite Again — Just Without the Impala (We Think)
Those desperate to see the on-screen chemistry between co-stars-turned-brothers, Ackles and Padalecki, will soon be able to do so when the fifth season of The Boys finally arrives down the road. They’ll be joined by fellow Supernatural alum, Misha Collins, for the final set of episodes of Kripke’s latest hit series. Aside from Ackles, who will reprise his role as Soldier Boy, their characters are being kept under wraps, but we know the trio will share a scene of some sort together. Bonus points if they get the Impala in there, too.
Supernatural #1 is available now.
