‘Speed’ Co-Stars Keanu Reeves & Sandra Bullock’s New Movie Gets an Update!!

A House of Dynamite is exploding over at Netflix as you read this; the tremors are being felt at the Pentagon as the thriller has even drawn ire from the U.S. government. Writer Noah Oppenheim must have done something right. Fortunately, he will be back for more. His next thriller will swap out Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson for Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. Yes, you read that right, the yet untitled project set at Amazon MGM Studios will mark a long-anticipated reunion between Reeves and Bullock (who are best known as a duo in 1994’s Speed) since their most recent collaboration in The Lake House. The mystery movie, which has some romantic elements, has been in development for a while and just got a massive update from Oppenheim.

The writer recently visited The Discourse podcast for an insightful interview with host Mike DeAngelo, where he discussed the making of A House of Dynamite, which was directed by Kathryn Bigelow, the multi-award-winning director known for the classic thrillers Point Break, The Hurt Locker, and Zero Dark Thirty. While detailing how the experience was an education for him, given Bigelow‘s leadership prowess, he also shared updates on his upcoming projects. Oppenheim reveals he’s been busy crafting the script for the upcoming thriller and teased an intense dynamic between Reeves and Bullock.

“I’m deep in it, writing as we speak. I think the genre is thriller, but it puts the two of them together in a way that captures the unique and exceptional chemistry that people love when they share the screen. They’re incredible to work with and very hands-on.”

Reeves and Bullock are set to produce the project alongside Mark Gordon. The idea reportedly came from Oppenheim, who pitched it directly to the duo and immediately won their interest. A director has yet to be attached. The pair’s proven on-screen chemistry and past success should serve to build anticipation for this one. Reeves and Bullock first teamed up in Speed, the breakout action thriller that became a sleeper hit, earning over $350 million on a $37 million budget and scoring a 95% Rotten Tomatoes rating along with an Oscar for Best Sound. Their second collaboration, The Lake House, wasn’t as critically praised but was still a commercial hit, grossing $114 million worldwide on a $40 million budget.

What Else Is Noah Oppenheim Writing Next?

Oppenheim has built an impressive résumé over the past decade, contributing to several acclaimed and commercially successful projects. He penned the script for Jackie, the historical drama centered on Jacqueline Kennedy, and co-wrote the screenplays for the dystopian hits The Maze Runner and The Divergent Series: Allegiant. Before A House of Dynamite, he created the Netflix political thriller Zero Day and is currently collaborating with John Krasinski on an upcoming Jack Ryan film. Oppenheim also served as an executive producer on Peacock’s latest true crime thriller, Devil in Disguise.
