Ryan Murphy has become one of the most controversial figures in Hollywood over the last few years, thanks to his Monster Netflix series, but that hasn’t stopped him from continuing to develop new projects. One of his next TV shows comes in the form of The Shards, yet another serial killer thriller based on the novel of the same name, set in the 1980s in Los Angeles. News broke yesterday afternoon that Murphy has recruited Wes Bentley to star in the role of Terry, the father of Debbie, who will be played by Hayes Warner. Bentley is best known for his recurring role in Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone.
Other cast members for The Shards include Kaia Gerber, Igby Rigney, Homer Gere, and Graham Campbell. The novel’s official synopsis reads as follows: “17-year-old Bret is a senior at the exclusive Buckley prep school when a new student arrives with a mysterious past. Robert Mallory is bright, handsome, charismatic and shielding a secret from Bret and his friends even as he becomes a part of their tightly knit circle. Bret’s obsession with Mallory is equaled only by his increasingly unsettling preoccupation with the Trawler, a serial killer on the loose who seems to be drawing ever closer to Bret and his friends, taunting them — and Bret in particular — with grotesque threats and horrific, sharply local acts of violence.”
Bentley also had a recurring role for three seasons in American Horror Story, so he knows what it’s like to work with Ryan Murphy. News of The Shards being in development came earlier this year, and Hulu ordered the show to series back in July. It’s unclear at this time when it will begin production or when it will be released.
When Does the Next Season of ‘Monster’ Come Out?
Netflix has already renewed Ryan Murphy’s hit serial killer series, Monster, for another season. The fourth season will focus on Lizzie Borden, and it’s already in production. It will likely be released sometime next year. The series first exploded onto Netflix charts as one of the most popular shows of all time for the streamer back in Season 1, which focused on Jeffrey Dahmer. Season 2 told the story of the Menendez brothers, and Season 3 follows the infamous killer Ed Gein. Ed Gein actor Charlie Hunnam will return in a new role in Monster Season 4.
