‘Star Trek’: ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ Directors to Helm New Movie!!

The “Kelvin Universe” of Star Trek movies may be as dead as Tasha Yar, but there’s a new take on the Trek universe in the works. Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, the dynamic directorial duo behind Game Night and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, have signed on to captain the newest big-screen entry from the venerable science fiction franchise, which will celebrate its 60th anniversary next year.

Who Are Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley?

After meeting on The Geena Davis Show, in which Goldstein was a writer and Daley an actor, Goldstein and Daley became a highly successful comedy writing team. After penning scripts for films like Horrible Bosses, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, and Spider-Man: Homecoming, the duo made their directorial debut with Vacation, a “legacy sequel” to the National Lampoon’s Vacation series. While that film received mixed reviews, their next directorial effort was the acclaimed Game Night, a comedy thriller starring Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams as game enthusiasts caught up in a real-life mystery. They followed it up with another game-themed film: Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, a live-action adaptation of the popular role-playing game that won accolades from D&D veterans and neophytes alike. Their next film is the Cold War adventure film Mayday, which will star Ryan Reynolds as an American pilot attempting to survive the Siberian wilderness after a crash-landing.

There have been a number of attempts to make a new Star Trek movie since Star Trek Beyond beamed into theaters in 2016, but none have successfully jumped to warp. Notably, Quentin Tarantino was recruited to write and direct an R-rated entry in the franchise, but the project eventually fell apart.
