‘The Boys’ Season 5: First Posters Tease the End of the Superhero Satire Series!! Check It Out!!

Hell has officially come to Earth in the debut posters for the fifth and final season of The Boys. Both sides are represented in the images and both play an integral part in the chaos that’s unfolding in each of the shots. The first features Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher who, with his iconic duster covering his body and a crowbar in hand, stands in front of a dilapidated Vought Tower. Beneath his feet is nothing but rubble, but the one-time leader of the eponymous group looks pretty darn put together with all things considered. The other poster features Butcher’s arch-nemesis, Antony Starr’s Homelander, who is literally floating amongst the cosmos as he watches the entire planet burn from space. How did we get to these two extreme moments? Unfortunately, the images are all we have for now, as no release date is set for The Boys’ final season, but the caption points to an all-out bloodbath as it reads: “Scorched earth. Shock and awe. Blood and bone.”

This breaking point is the one we’ve been waiting for from Butcher since the very first season. The final moments of Season 4 saw him leaving his mates behind and driving off into the unknown in the company of Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Joe Kessler — a figment of Butcher’s imagination — along for the ride. We’ve always known that Homelander was a complete and utter monster, but it looks like Season 5 will turn Butcher more into monster than man. This sentiment was previously teased by series creator, Eric Kripke, who said,

“Is he a man or a monster? And does he have to turn himself into a monster in order to defeat Homelander? And is there any part of him left that’s still human? I think what you’re asking is the big question of the series, and so I don’t want to give that away. It’s a big concern… In many ways, it’s a show about humanity and how power, vengeance, and violence take it away. And so, how are you able to hold onto it? And we’ll just have to see. At the end of Season 4, there’s no question that the monster wins, but we’ll have to see where that goes in Season 5.”

Who Else Is in Season 5 of ‘The Boys’?

Although Urban and Starr’s characters landed their mugs on the first two posters to come from Season 5, there are plenty of other familiar returning faces set to dot the end of the series. Included in the list are Jack Quaid, Karen Fukuhara, Erin Moriarty, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Nathan Mitchell, Jensen Ackles and Tomer Capone. Additionally, Supernatural stars, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins will share some screentime with their old castmate, Ackles. We’d also expect Kripke to have a few secret weapons up his sleeve.
