Simu Liu is caught up in games of deceit and death in the first trailer for The Copenhagen Test. The futuristic spy thriller pits him against the unknown, sinister force that has made him into an unwilling traitor by hacking his brain; now, he has to pretend he’s unaware of the device in his skull while simultaneously taking down the shadowy villains who are monitoring his every move. The series will premiere on Peacock on December 27.
In the trailer, Liu plays Alexander Hale, an American intelligence agent in the near future. His superiors have been searching for a mole in their organization, and they’ve finally uncovered Hale as the culprit…even though he has no idea he’s betrayed his country. Some unknown individual or organization has planted a device in his brain, constantly transmitting everything he sees and hears to them. He’s presented with two choices: surgical removal of the device, or to play along to find out who did this to him.
He chooses Door #2, and soon he’s embroiled in a complicated mission, with the mysterious Michelle (Melissa Barrera, Your Monster) as his only ally…or is she? To the strains of The Cranberries‘ “Zombie,” we see Liu as a man on a mission, making full use of the martial arts skills audiences saw him deploy in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Will his superiors ultimately choose to save the mission, or save his life? You’ll have to tune into Peacock this holiday season for the first taste of the eight-episode series.
