‘Pushing Daisies’: Season 3 Is Finally in Development, 16 Years After Getting Cancelled!!

Fans of Pushing Daisies may finally get the revival they have been championing for over a decade. While promoting his new horror film Dust Bunny, creator Bryan Fuller revealed that he and the original cast are actively building a third season of the cult favorite series, which last aired in 2009. Fuller shared the update during a recent interview, explaining that the creative team has already shaped a full pitch for Season 3. Even better, the cast is reportedly on board to return. “We have a Season 3 pitch, and the entire cast wants to come back,” Fuller said, adding that the only piece missing is a studio willing to take on the project. During the same press tour, Fuller emphasized that they are hoping to move forward within the year.

The series became an instant standout when it premiered on ABC in 2007. Produced by Warner Bros. Television, the mystery fantasy followed Lee Pace as Ned, a pie-maker with a supernatural ability to revive the dead with a single touch. The gift came with a dangerous limitation. A second touch reversed the effect permanently, creating an impossible romance between Ned and Charlotte “Chuck” Charles, played by Anna Friel.

A Long-Awaited Return for a Cult Classic

The supporting cast included Kristin Chenoweth, Chi McBride, Swoosie Kurtz, Ellen Greene, and narration by Jim Dale, all contributing to the show’s distinct tone and heightened fairy tale world. The series was praised for its rich visual style, playful storytelling, and emotional sincerity. Over just two seasons, it earned 17 Emmy nominations and won 7, including trophies for directing and Chenoweth’s supporting performance. Despite its acclaim, Pushing Daisies had its run cut short during the writers strike, which impacted production and ratings. The second season attempted to offer closure, though it left fans wishing for a more complete resolution. Fuller has expressed interest in returning to the story in many forms over the years, but this is the most concrete revival update the series has had since its cancellation.

If Season 3 finds a home, it would mark the first time the original cast reunites onscreen since 2009. For now, both seasons of Pushing Daisies remain available to stream on HBO Max.
