‘Hotel Costiera’ Cancelled After One Season!!

In a shocking move, Prime Video has confirmed the fate of its White Lotus replacement series two months after the streamer debuted all episodes at once. News broke this afternoon that Hotel Costiera, which stars Jesse Williams, has been canceled after only one season. However, it may not be dead yet. In the same report detailing Hotel Costiera’s cancellation is the news that Fremantle, which sells the show around the world and found a bidder in Prime Video for Season 1, is shopping the show to potentially find a home for Season 2. This could take months, but it’s certainly better than a cold cancellation.

The first season of Hotel Costiera was widely well-liked by critics, who rated it a strong 90% on the world’s leading aggregator site, Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences were quicker to pick the show apart, though, and also recognized its similarities to The White Lotus. It sits at a 60% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter. Season 1 tells the story of Daniel De Luca (Williams), a half-Italian former U.S. Marine who becomes a fixer at a luxury hotel in Italy. While also struggling to deal with his daily duties, he’s tasked with investigating his boss’s missing daughter.

Hotel Costiera performed fine on the streaming charts, but it certainly wasn’t head-turning. The show debuted in the top spot as most original new series often do, but it didn’t take long to slide out of the top spot and, eventually, off the streaming charts altogether. This happened only a few weeks after Prime Video dropped the show as a binge. Perhaps it would have performed better if new episodes were released weekly, but it’s impossible to tell now.

What’s Popular on Prime Video Right Now?

One of the most popular shows on Prime Video right now is Fallout, which has stormed back to the top of streaming charts ahead of the debut of its long-awaited second season. The Summer I Turned Pretty is also still sitting comfortably in the Prime Video top three despite wrapping up its final season weeks ago. As for movies, Taron Egerton’s crime thriller, She Rides Shotgun, is picking apart its streaming competition right now. Other entries in the top 10 include Red One (Dwayne Johnson), Playdate (Alan Ritchson), and The Killer (Sam Worthington).
